Advice for Game Fishing in Exmouth

Hopefully someone can help me but next winter im booked in for a fishing trip to exmouth with Family, boat in tow. I have Limited experience with game fishing (perth based), and i would really hope i could get some advise for fishing marlin, sailfish, mahi, mackerals etc. I need a new rod and reel specifically for trolling. Id rather get mid range gear$$ and id prefer to fish on the lighter side. Please also advice on line leader, and rigs/ lures. Ive got a year to save and prepare. Any tips much appreciated.

you can't go wrong with a Shimano TLD25 and some 15kg line and a 15kg fibrelgass rod. Lighter will work for most of the billfish but then that big one will show up...

Chuck in a Richter Soft Oscar and Richter Soft Grassy rigged on 6' of 250lb leader and Maruto 1920 hooks (8/0 or 10/0). I run a 150lb wind on leader about 12' long. Pinks and Lumo always get a swim in my spread for billfish.

Some Halco Laser Pro's and maybe a RMG Scorpion 5m or a X-Rap will do for the mackies.

Agree with Tim. 15kg is probably the minimum I would suggest as an allround rig. I also second the Soft Grassys but would add a Purple/Black to the colour wish list.

Winter is a good time Walker and Exxy a good place to take the family!

I fish there 2 to 3 times a year and love the place as you can do so much including targetting billfish which is very do-able and a buzz!

The Richter lures are the go with Soft oscar/Junior oscar/Soft grassy my favs for marlin & sailfish. Our Richter range also caters for YFT & dolys etc. We sell them fully rigged which is done by Mark Richter personally for my shop!

Mackerel wise you cant beat the halco 160XDD/190DD/190XDD in red-head/green gold/pilchard and the new red head/gold!

Other favs are the Rapala X-Rap 20 & 30 deepdivers in redhead and baitfish colours!

When chasing macs/yft etc run a Black Pete Dilfish mirror teaser, that will increase the strikes & bites!

Windon leaders a must, 300lb for billfish and 100lb for macs & YFT!

As for gear, drop the shop a PM as we're happy to help!

Hey walker check out the Tyrnos Range. The tyrnos 30 with 15kg line and a T-curve 15-24kg rod is what I have used and has accounted for nuemeorous macks an Tuna.

Good advice on the lures as well. Just with your Mackie lures don't forget the wire! I prefer signle strand wire joined via Haywire twist.

One more point look at getting some Teasers, go and see our sponsors and they will expand more on this.

Cheers

Ben

thats same combo accounted for a 30-40kg black last weekend on my boat, more than up for a big fish, especially with the 5.0:1 ratio
