Hi guys, looking at going out fairly wide tomorrow.
havent been out when the easterly is blowing.
Just looking for your thoughts on the wind tomorrow. The swell is down and wave period is up.
will it be ok or quite chopped up?
cheers for your input!

Choppy
The further you go out the worse its going to get until the wind drops later in the day, that's if it drops.

Easterlies are one of the
Easterlies are one of the most dangerous winds, as it pushes up against the swell and creates a very short and sharp chop. It also lulls you into a false sense of security as in close all looks good but it wips up once past Rotto.
15 knot easterly on seabreeze is usually 18-20 past Rotto until it dies down later......18-20 knot easterly is not fun in a sub 6 m boat. Plus 20 knot easterly is dangerous!

As John said, wind blows up against the swell makes a very sharp chop!

Have a look on the horizon
if it is lumpy, well then it is going to be rough. Remember, if you go out and the wind doesnt drop, coming home might be even worse

yeah I was out at Rotto
yeah I was out at Rotto checking pots this morning and at the time we were out Seabreeze was reporting 14-15 and gusts a bit higher, but it certainly felt every knot of that and then some.
Coming back in was a bit of a mission until we got in closer to land.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Rotto Today
Left Hillarys this morning at 7.30am with 8 knot E'ly (on willy weather app) and hit Rotto just after 8am which was at 15 knots, chop was up around 2.5-3 foot in places

Two rocks
Rough ride home, took over 2 hours to get back from 25 nm out. What was worse only had 1 pinky to show for it. Willy weather said below 10 knots in morning, bet my last dollar that it was more than that.

I was out today - choppy but no big deal - I reckon its better than a southerly (end up wearing the ocean on the way back in...)

Thanks!
Cheers all for the advise! Decided against going tomorrow - it keeps getting worse. If Saturdays forecast stays as is I will go deep on Saturday.
May as well fish in comfortable water and wag less uni!
