Hi Sean What set-up were you using
I have tangled with a few YTKs in the past which your fish would have eaten for dinner - and I know how hard they go. So I am interested in what sort of equipment you wouldhave used to land that horse?

heavy jigging tackle
Colin, the average size of the Kingfish at the 3 Kings is 20-25kg...with fish over 35kg encountered regularly. The Wreckfish and Hapuka range from 15-80kg. The Striped Marlin are the biggest in the world with 150kg fish common. Other species include big snapper, Silver Trevally, Blue Cod, King Tarakihi and a few others. For jigging, the Kingfish, Wreckfish and Bass are the targets. We fished for these in anything from 30-140m over mostly rugged pins and reefs. The fish know where the bricks are and actively seek cover. For this reason, I feel using the heaviest jigging tackle is essential...even then they will still drag you through the stones. The bigger fish were immensely powerful and a clear understanding of your tackles capabilities is required to maximise your chances....Attention to detail in the terminals is the key.....no weaknesses......My jigging outfits used on this trip were -
Synit Hellbent Exorcist PE10/Ocea Jigger 5000P/100lb powerpro/200lb fluorocarbon leader/tuned gamakatsu 35 jig hook/300lb kevlar assist cord/SS ring and grommet
Jigging Master Powerspell 400g/ Ocea Jigger 4000P/YGK ultra jigman PE8
Jigging Master Powerspell 350g/Torsa 16N/65lb Tufline
Jigs that performed were
Broken Arrow 420g
Jigging Master Rocket 300-400g
Sanme 600g
Zest Curved Slider 300g
Zest Deep Slim 400g
