Western Port Gummy

Finally managed to get out with Streaker (Aaron) on his boat, here in Melbourne. He was even kind enough to pick me up and drop me back at the train station, as I don't have a car yet.
Anyway, we headed out and caught some baitfish (yakkas, Slimeys etc) then moved on to a gummy spot. After having anchored up for an hour and a half or so(waiting for the tide to slacken off a bit), Aaron hooked up and landed a 5-6kg gummy. After boating that, 10 minutes later a second rod went off and after a short fight this sucker popped up, only small, around 7kg, but stoked to get my first Vic gummy. Looking forward to a few nice feeds. Thanks again Aaron.

I was clever and bought it out once we were fishing haha. Turns out he's one of the only Victorians that couldn't give a shit about footy, so all good.

My vote is that the terrific odour of gummy shark did the trick in this instance. Although it didn't seem to hinder the efforts of the young, late night city goers that were taking delight in snorting a particular ADHD medicine. I guess their noses were otherwise engaged.

It's good fun, thanks John.
It's good fun, thanks John. The fishing is completely different, Western port in particular, which supports awesome Whiting and gummy shark fisheries, but the tidal movement is amazing, never had to deal with anything like it back home.
