Managed to get out to the reef again today. Great conditions and the fishing was ok too. Caught Red Bass, Spaniard, a few trout and this nice G loitering around some fusiliers on the edge of a bommie.

When your throwing poppers are you for these GTs are you fishing the inner reefs or out wider. We had a throw a few days last week on the last reef out from innisfail with not alot of luck. Are you catching these off one reef or do you fish a few different reefs.

Thanks guys, would have been
Thanks guys, would have been a crime not to go fishing with such great weather. Andy, today I was with the missus so we just fished one of the inner reefs. I don't target any particular reef, but look for particular structure. I'm still relatively new to this style of fishing, but here's a couple tips-
Look for bommies that come up to about 15 foot at the shallowest and have fairly steep drops off the side. Next is a big one - Look for schools of bait (mainly fusiliers) that will be holding off the bommie. Wherever I've found fusiliers, I've either caught fish or been wiped out. If you're not getting any hits on the big haymakers etc, try a medium sized roosta or stickbait (I'm addicted to stickbaits at the moment).
Drifting across shallow bommie country randomly casting can also be fun (and expensive), you'll get the least amount of luck in shallow featureless corally rubble.
Down innisfail way once you get it sussed you should be getting smashed left and right!

yeah Jangles, it's the same
yeah Jangles, it's the same type. Depending on where you get them they're marketed as Blackjacks, Heru's or Nomads. I don't really know why, 'cause they all seem to be the same. They are quite expensive but the fish love 'em.
