crap

how can you possibly compare a 2 st to a 4 st? the 4 stroke is quieter, more efficient and a bucketload more reliable....

ofcoarse a 2 stroke will beat it out the hole and at top end but not by much

if you want real information not just youtube crap follow this link for an actual controlled test that would be more appropriate to your intention (traveling , fuel consumption etc) and you will find that even yamahas 2 st are still more efficient than the etec.

Its called hobbling. Very easy to do really to make any test come up in your favour..

In the very early days Honda used to do it all the time as well until they saw the light.

Funniest part is that ETEC keep trying to say just how good they are by comparing themselves to "The Best" Yamaha..

Yamaha took it as a huge pat on the shoulder and use it as a selling point.

What's the purpose of this thread anyway?

Tue, 2011-08-30 14:06

Should I start a thread "Holden vs Ford"? It would create a thread but with a heap of full of shit responses based on bias and lack of real knowledge.

It's called trolling I think. Creating controversial content

Tue, 2011-08-30 16:00

just to stir something up. Sure, I like a bit of a stir too but my threads will at least provide some form of content that states the true purpose of the thread. WTF. Oh; and if I don't read them I will not know what they are about

Regardless

Tue, 2011-08-30 14:43

Regardless of what comes out of the comparasons each person will still have his own opinion on what sits on the back of his boat. Horses for courses, some do well at top end while others are good low down, fuel usage comes in to the equation as does servicing costs and time between services, when you put them all together and come up with something that covers all bases successfully then find a boat hull using the same procedure and your work is going to keep someone busy for quite a while.

If he made the choice to fit what ever brand after doing his research he isn't going to admit to himself or others that he made a mistake and swap after just a few hours running. Its like Vince says, Ford vs Holden, your mind is made up long before you even voice you thoughts.

The initial post says it all

Wed, 2011-08-31 12:57

The initial post says it all "What do you think?" I read on to read "what do you think of this test?"

I said i thinks its crap.

Its kinda like taking a stock Ford / Holden and doing a comparison, but you take one of the cars (the one your not selling) and you change the plugs, maybe even change the timing. Run different fuel in each other, its all easy to replicate any test to read bad.

Sadly these days i don't even take to much credit from Magazines that do write ups. Check who pays for there advertising?

I took a boat out once for a boat test for a builder with a mag writer and to be honest it was and still is the worst boat i have ever been in. In fact i sent it back to the builder in NSW after the test. The journo (who i had respect for before the article) agreed with me, but it turned out his boss had some input into the design. SO left with this i said "Look don't can it in a write it up, no need to bag it out but just say you can't do the write up" Well that wasn't good enough and he went, to great reports saying how good the boat was in the next months paper. A complete load of crap..

From personal experiences, i would go the yamaha, because after all it is a 4 stroke. It has a lovely purr when you crank it, and it will never fail you. Start up first time every time, no smoke.

Etec mite be the same, but i wouldnt' know

yammy all the way!
