Must also keep in
Mind band in public places. Local lakes, streams , dams ect. Can only be used on private property’s. Better of just walking certain places at night. With small net. your only going for yabbies fisheries would have a ball with you :):)

Unfortunately as the law
Unfortunately as the law stands if you are caught in a public area you will be charged for fishing for marron out of season and using illegal gear to catch marron. Once again it is an issue of the department running by the letter of the law instead of the intent of the law.
Private property only is your best bet.

Where does it say you can't
Where does it say you can't go yabbying in a public area? We have had fisheries chat to us on a couple of occasions while catching yabbies and they have not stopped us.
We were using yabbie drop nets and all they said was don't return any back to the water. The waterways we catch yabbies don't hold marron.
still trying

i think its rules that all
i think its rules that all sub division in perth too many do gooders whinging about kids fishing in public lakes a child could drown if we let them play near water , keep them locked in the house on a PlayStation till they are 18 and can use their PlayStation experience to become rapist or something worse
rather be fishing

There is nothing about
There is nothing about yabbying at all, unfortunately it comes down to the fisheries officer... (Intent of the law or letter of the law) where does it say what waters are designated marron waters? (and I believe this is the biggest issue)
People have been charged with what I have described above while just chasing yabbies. It is a ridiculous state of affairs and I am not saying that I agree with it any any way, I would rather see kids / people catching yabbies in local ponds and waterways any day of the week.
All I was trying to do was make the original poster aware of an issue with chasing yabbies.

Seen local kids throw pots
Seen local kids throw pots into Lake Joondalup as well as the creek that runs through the southern part of Yellagonga where the old race course was, use to walk the dogs through the area quite a bit.
They seem to get a few yabbies, how many im not sure as i only stop to have a quick look and ask how they are doing.

City of Mandurah
Rule number one, ornamental lakes and such must not be used for enjoyment by the citizens of Mandurah the fun police are employed to make sure that all lakes and the likes are for looking at and not for any sort of recreational enjoyment, never mind that kids could get a lot of enjoyment by catching the carp that inhabit these water ways or yabbies if any inhabit there as well.
Good god, the next thing is we will see kids laughing and being happy then where would we be.

Sorry guys, I wasn't having
Sorry guys, I wasn't having a go I was curious as to the rules. I thought I might have been doing something wrong.
The Fisheries guys I have spoken to said the nets I use are ok, the drop net style not opera house. They also said that they can't prove you're trying to catch marron. It would be like saying you are snapper fishing during the ban just because you're fishing in the ocean where snapper live. Maybe country fisheries are a bit more realistic than the city guys?

A. There should be a bounty
A. There should be a bounty on carp. B. Not that I've tried but I'd say perth hills like the helena river would have to have some yabbies
