Why bream fishing with floats is my new favorite thing to do.

I'd never fished bream using a float before, I'd always go unweighted or use a light sinker. Thought I'd give a float rig a go after a failed mullet session on bread.

Used a long leader below the float (long enough so the bait gets real low) and a small long shank. I found a lot of benefits using a float.

I could cast into the snaggiest locations where all the bream hide and I very rarely got snagged, no sinker meaning less chance to spook bream when casting and of course detecting bites with the float which is not only a lot more fun but you can definitely tell when and when not to strike.

I found my hookup rate was a lot more than fishing unweighted or with a sinker, caught bream after bream using a float.

Bait used was small pieces of muelie, bread and prawns.

I rarely see people mention floats when fishing for bream so I thought I'd post this for you to see my experience with one.

I've always pondered using a float for bream but never actually tried it. Grew up fishing for redfin in really snaggy country using float rigs and used to love it. Will be sure to give it a go next time I go out. Sounds like the way to go

float fishing for bream is my go to on sand flats, mullet and bream jump on, east to see strikes. usually the bigger bream sit behind or under mullet schools, so a small sinker helpos get the bait past the mullet and to the bream and whiting below them

I've seen a few blokes fishing like this at Canning bridge, I thought they were just looking for mullet, never even thought of chasing bream on a float rig

I fish with a herring rig on the rare event I am chasing them.

up the hook size to keep the little ones at bay. The big splash of the float gets some interest / spooks them, then when all settles down the fish come sniffing about.

This is down at Walpole where there are Bream everywhere though.

Cheers,
