Whiting Sounder Shot
Submitted by Broady on Fri, 2013-11-08 16:53
Sounder shot from Monday which I thought was pretty cool. Got hammered by big fat sand whiting through this area out behind Stragglers with a couple of small yellowtail flathead as well. The whiting were well and truly on the chew and I was even catching them on bare hooks.
Sounder is a HDS12 Touch with a 1kw through hull transducer. Need to fiddle with it a bit more yet but very happy with the performance.
Cheers.

Airmar SS164 thru hull
Did have an Airmar M260 in hull unit but had lots of problems with losing the bottom requiring a soft reset (which even that didnt work sometimes), or needing to turn it off for an extended period. Did the software updates and changed the head unit and was still getting the problem. Really frustrating when your on your first trip to Exmouth and you cant use the sounder for two hours!!! Ultimately bit the bullet and changed over to the thru hull. Worked like a charm since and now getting my settings sorted once and for all.

Thanks Broady
I have the same issue you are talking about, M260 in a 602F, I see you have the 632.
Looks like I will need to go the through hull to get the most out of it. Can you post a pick of where your through hull is located please?
Cheers

Broady out of curiosity did
Broady out of curiosity did your problems commence with stopping in slop, reversing back to something you've seen on the sounder etc (causing lots of airated water). I've had the similar issues (through hull not an option for me) and I believe bubbles may grab on the bottom of the transducer at times - quick wipe with the hand (mines not to far down to reach) and a restart seem to sort it, though it hasn't happened on the last few trips.
Nice pic - KG's show up the same - suprising how far they will show off the bottom at times when in numbers

Nah mate. It would drop out cruising between spots and sometimes just whilst drifting. Really frustrating so I hope its now sorted. I started a new detailed thread on the issues I had seperately.
The distance the whiting came off the botom was a surprise to me as well. In the photo you can see at least two drops of the rig and you can also make out a couple of the retrieves.
Cheers.

Thanks for the sounder shot
Thanks for the sounder shot Broady, I could look at those things all day long as find them a great help in interpreting what I'm seeing on my sounder.
