White run

So we're all set to drop the pots on Saturday for the first time this year. Hoping our timing is as good as last year. Anyone else dropping for the first time this year?

Wait till this moon pisses off
Roaches always scatter when the lights are on. Moon goes black and they will head in I think.

29th they will be well on
29th they will be well on the way by then.
No whites yet, pulled ours today, only 5 reds. Moved 2 pots onto red ground and 4 on sand (2 of those been there since Sunday as only 2 of us today).
Whites will start about the 18th-19th i reckon.
At the moment the pro's are still setup for the reds, not whites, gives you an idea. We will pull tomorrow as the red pots are on honey holes so will see what they produce, but likely we will only pull 1-2 times a week until we see whites.
Jurien always starts 1-2 weeks before metro.

Hey thanks for the tips so
Hey thanks for the tips so far.
I'm a little confused about the white run. All the scientific research I read about the migration is that the crays migrate out to deep water when they are whites. But here I read talk of crays moving in to shore when they are white.
Could someone please shed some light on this please.

You got the first bit
You got the first bit correct, the reds will migrate in , starve themselves and shed their shells. Hence the lighter colour ,then migrate out to deeper water.

There is a super moon
There is a super moon happening on the 14th November, closest the moon as been to the earth in 70 years so will be brighter and bigger than normal (about 14% bigger) so this will likely have an impact on the crays this next week as it aligns with the full moon cycle

Is anyone catching much out of Ocean Reef? We just pulled donuts except for one undersize today after a pretty constant return for most of the season so far.

The migration starts in
The migration starts in shallow and moves out towards deep water. We have been inside the reef at OR on less than 10m simce season start. As they move deeper so will the pots.
