Western Warriors 2017/18
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sun, 2017-10-29 15:16
JL has built some kind of squad and surely we are destined to reap the rewards of developing a squad through local players if not this season but over the next decade.
Just when you thought our bowling stocks couldn't get any better this Kelly also pops up. It''ll be a nice headache for JL to have once Paris is fit and Dorf is allowed to play.
The boys are in their way to crushing Tas with NCN showing he is worthy of a Baggy Green if required.

How's the depth
Bloody hell look at the sidelines dorff,Paris, tye, Jono wells and bloody maxwell klinger
my one to watch is darcy short. Awesome power with the bat very handy leggy. Justin langer put the rocket up him 2 years ago when he said he wanted to play for austrlia. Langer not one to mix his words told him is he was serious let him train him because "at the moment your just a fat kid from gosnells"

You always feel they're but a quick single away from a hammy don't ya. Shaun has actually been holding up alright and his form reflects the continuity in his cricket with a mountain of runs and we really don't even need to bowl Mitch so he can concentrate on his batting and captaincy.
I'm of the thought that we may lose Shaun to the Test team if he can peel of a tonne or two in the next two Shield games. Gonna be tough this weekend though potentially facing Starc, Cummins, Hazelwood and Lyon

Hahaha. Devastating spell from Hazelwood.
Could have flown a jumbo jet in between Mitch's bat and pad. He just doesn't seem to have the technique to cut it in the long form does he?

Very arrogant declaration by Smith and thus far it's looking like he'll be able to cook an omlete with all the egg he'll be wiping of his face.
Long way to go yet though

In what way was Smith's declaration arrogant? He has the Australian Test bowling line-up at his call.
I thought it was a good for cricket declaration just like the one in Melbourne today too. All four sides had an opportunity to win by either batting or bowling well.
Ridiculous comment.

A good for cricket
A good for cricket declaration would have been one that encouraged the West Aussies to chase the target not 394 from 80 overs.
Smarsh's brilliance half made a game of it and if not for Starc's bullying of the tailenders it'd have petered out into a draw and Smith's unimagininative captaincy would again be called into question.

What are you talking about.
What are you talking about. They were 0/170. Only needed 220 off 44 overs. Guys not going on with it. Cartwright didnt help himself in front of the chairman of selectors (smith).
Bancroft is the only shining light. If he had gone on with it and made a big one he would be playing in first test and maybe wearing the gloves.

That's what I said. Smarsh's brilliance half made a game of it.
Cartwright has shot himself out of contention when all other around him are also failing unless he gets a big score in the next Shield match. Don't be surprised if Boof Jr gets a surprise call up with the bowling attack we'll have.
Bangers was brilliant showing that fight in the first dig and backing it up with runs in the 2nd. Lot to like about him going forward.

Your lack of cricket
Your lack of cricket knowledge is considerable. The pitch was getting better each session. The openers put on 170 comfortably and then the team fell apart under the assault of, I'll say it again, the Australian attack. The declaration induced good cricket and the best side over 4 days won. A bias against Smith doesn't help your arguments or opinions.

You are replying to a comment
You are replying to a comment I made when Starc took a second hat trick for the match. Considering it's never been done before it is pretty unbelievable don't ya think.
At the time of my original comment we were about 0/160 and it was looking like Smith's decision to bat us out of the game and not leave enough time to bowl us out was arrogant in that he assumed his bowling attack would get the job done on, as you pointed out, a flattening pitch. End of the day Starc rolled us with an 11th hour hat trick and I'm the one with egg on my face. Was good to see your mate in the runs today in any case.
Ps I am a huge Smith fan... just not when he's wearing a blue cap.

What's your experienced
What's your experienced cricket brain thoughts on NCN walloped? Gone or can he back his pace off and work on his swing bowling?
His lower order batting is invaluable and his fielding is elite.

Like Pattinson in Victoria I
Like Pattinson in Victoria I reckon they need to get super fit by running....road running a la Lillee and then be bowqling heaps of overs. None of this restriction crap. Also, encourage them to not play anything but T20s in the off season. Australia needs these two fellas firing.

Whatever these sport scientists are doing it certainly seems to be to the detriment of our young fast bowlers coming through and why the hell has Dorf been rested again?

I get the feeling we'll see
I get the feeling we'll see Neville come in and Renshaw retain his spot with enough credit in the bank from last summer but he'll be on notice. If the selectors were genuine about runs getting you a spot then we'd see Bancroft opening in Brisbane but this is CA we're talking about.
Our policy of picking an all-rounder even though Smith refuses to bowl the all-rounder will continue. Cartwright with a FC avg of 47 is more of a batter that can bowl a few and is the incumbent so I reckon he is best placed to get the spot.
Just looking forward to seeing Cummins and Starc let loose on the Poms on a juicy Gabba pitch!

If the selectors were fair
If the selectors were fair dinkum about runs earning you a spot we'd have seen Cam White, Ed Cowan and Maxie Klinger over in India. The selectors send mixed messages at times. I reckon we've gone past Wade and neville and that we're looking at Bancroft or Paine.

Aussie selectors confused yet
Aussie selectors confused yet again.
1.They ask the state teams to not play Cowan, Klinger and White to give the youth a chance to come through...and then select S Marsh 34yrs old, for experience.
2. Paine cant get a gig keeping for his home state but gets the gig for the national team
3. I think they got it right with Bancroft but Cartwright and Maxwell would be feeling hard done by
4. Warriors need to get Dorf, Paris and NCN on the park not being managed. NCN needs to recover first
5. Renshaw is thinking WTF?

Bancroft good selection.
Bancroft good selection. Renshaws personally was lucky to get a spot back when he did. Hes got time on his hands.
S Marsh, yeah quality player but time to move on. Hamstrings are gone.
Tim Paine. We havent gained or lost anything. I always thought he should of got a shot earlier but Haddin hung in there much longer.

At what stage do you query
At what stage do you query the training techniques for the bowlers? Behrendorf, NCN, Paris, Turner, Agar for half a season..if this was the AFL someone would be moved on.
WA have a squad that should be playing in the final. Obviously three batsman are off representing Oz and Richardson is getting experience but the first class efforts are piss poor.
Can you really build a team around all-rounders? Is Cartwright a no.3? Where is Whiteman? However Inglis has showed a bit.
Frustrating to say the least.
