We can stuff it up also

With increased traffic and bad behaviour it's no wonder things like this can happen. It will take some time for this to come into effect and the best thing we can do IMO is to behave and act as protectors of these places. Us older fellas do the right thing.. Can I ask that the younger brigade do the right thing too? The amount of broken bottles is disgusting and the tracks are crap due to what I classify as HOON mentalitiy. I know the rangers up that way and I know what they have to deal with. Their safest option is to ban camping and beach access and stay at arms lenght and take photos etc. to justify a penalty. Let's not let it get to that. Please.

Bit of a left field comment,

Bit of a left field comment, but do you guys down there attribute this perhaps to the increasing amount of FIFO people on R&R having more time to burn looking for places to go? I know 99% of FIFO guys and Gals do the right thing, but these days more people have more time off than in the 'old days'. Just a thought.

PS a lot of my mates are FIFO, so Im not bashing them at all, it was just an observation.

FIFO

Agree with Lastchance comments that due to the large number of people doing FIFO there appears to be more and more people holidaying in the area during the non peak periods(weekdays). In saying that i don't think we can blame them anymore than anyone else for the access being cut off.

Uncut's comments about banning between Lano and Wilbinga could be right. A lot of people don't realise,or care that a large part of the area between lano and guilderton is actually private property and 4wd's and motorbikes just drive around everywhere regardless of fences etc. People regularly break into the few shacks along there and trash them.

If everyone doesn't start having a little bit of respect then it will be very limited where you can go for a cheap weekend.

I would be more convinced its

I would be more convinced its about money for the shire and its caravan parks ect, than bad behaviour that has brought this about. If people are camping on the beach and bringing their own gear they arnt spending much in the local towns. Be as respectfull as you want they would have closed it anyway. Around our way you use to be able to drive 4wd,s on the beach but they closed it because of environmental concerns, the 30 square km of sand dunes and bush right next to it they leveled to create a private housing estate didnt seem to have any enviromental issues, go figure. A trend thats happening Australia wide.

I will still be heading up there as long as I can. They actually can't stop you from fishing overnight just erecting structure.
the amount of people who head up there and think its okay to chuck all their empty stubbies on the ground shits me but it's pretty hard to dissolve this mentality.

No big surprise

Tue, 2012-01-24 12:21

This doesn't really surprise me and IMO it is the minority spoiling for the majority.  Went up to Wilbinga a couple of weeks ago and was appauled by the amount of smashed glass at one spot.  Looked like a party had been had and every bottle smashed...we ended up staying as it looked a good spot and spent the first half hour cleaning the area.  Sunday morning on the way home saw some guys sat drinking and having breakfast (this is all before 9am !) and one finished his stubbie and just threw it over his shoulder into the bush like it was the most natural thing to do ?!?!?!?!?

Just don't get if you have the room to bring it you have the room to take it away so why just dump it ??? bag it throw it in the back and either stick it on one of the many bins on the roadside or your bin at home......make the most of it as this is not going to last !! Have to feel sorry for the next generation as they will not be able to do it at all !
