We lost a great fisherman last weekend.
My old man passed away peacefully last weekend after a long battle with skin cancer and various other illnesses. He faced into each challenge front on, always appreciating what he had, never complaining about what he couldn't do. He was an avid fisherman that influenced my own passion for the sport. I would go as far as saying that he mastered the area out from the cut (Port Bouvard). He seemed to know where the fish will be, when they will be there and what they wanted to eat. He also did quite well land based, with the 3-mile reef (Moore River), Hamelin Bay and Black Rock, regular haunts. Some of his most prized catches are below, he tells me the big dhu weighed approx 24kg's.
RIP dad, thanks for the memories and teachning me how to fish.
Fishwreckers, remember to slip, slop, slap, wear a hat and stay safe!!!

Condolences Selthy, living life to the fullest it seems!
Can I ask how old he was?
I am also in the process of getting bits chopped out over several rounds of surgery, though so far they are not too serious but a total of about 30 odd stitches so far this time
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

So sorry for your loss. I
So sorry for your loss. I actually had the great pleasure of meeting and being a good friend of your dad quite a few years ago.
He was equally just a good cricketer as he was fishing.
Boy can I tell you some stories of him in the day.....I won't, nah - I will.....
1. One year when he was president, we had won two grand finals the A grade and the C grade. As the C grade finished earlier we went back to the rooms (locked) one of our smallest players got lifted and entered the 2 storey club rooms via the opened window. So we started celebrating 2 hours before the A grade turned up. The party went on until the wee hours of the morning. Your dad was so sloshed (pissed) that he wanted to sleep in the rooms (this was 3am mind you) AND he wanted the fridges left open. We said no, but he used the excuse that "he was the president and uses his presidental right to demand the fridges be unlocked". Anyway him and a good friend stayed the night and when they woke in the morning - well you can imagine how they felt and then they had to clean up the mess. Your mum was grateful he did not come home in that state.
2. One game against Baywsater we had lost a couple of quick wickets not due to good bowling but to crap batting. He was in with a good friend of ours (Ilsey). Not sure what came over your dad that day but we just went ballistic and ended up with a record score and partnership. His score that match 222! Ilsey (30). We all hated Ilsey because he did not want to get out and was enjoying the carnage from the other end.
He'd played about 175 matches, scored over 5600 runs (ave 29) 7 centuries, 34 half centuries. (so not bad with the bat - most of those were in A grade if you don't mind). Not a bowler but did snag 18 wickets, by thowing pies.
Not bad with the gloves mind you. I probably broke a couple of his fingers the few games I played with him
Cricket wise he left a legacy which if I may say - did pass it onto you but you did not go on with cricket (at our club anyway).
Needless to say many of your dad's friends are devistated to have heard the news.
