Warroora :-) Station - camping & fishing

Looking at heading to Warra Station in May ?? (undecided, plenty of time yet), just my brother and myself, camping gear and my 4.3 tinny. Would like to see the area before it all changes and gets restricted. I'm pretty much aware of the restrictions and necessities. (water, fuel, toilet, power, recovery gear)

Looking at the maps, Warra station has a marine reserve ( Pelican ) pretty much in the middle of the station on the coast and extending 5-6km offshore ( I think, roughly google mapped it)

So my options are to camp north (14 mile) or head south of the marine park and camp down that way still on Warra Station (Nolans Nook ?? or close to it within the boundary)

For the guys who may have fished north or south before and camped, what in your opinion was the best or is the best ? Now i assume north would be more fished being closer to Coral Bay but that is just an assumption. I prefer to pretty much use lures only, so my style suits shallow water then heading out a bit to chase pelagics and drop jigs on anything interesting.

I chose May as I am hoping to miss the April crowd (kids) and arrive before the June crowd (nomads), again just assuming, there are bound to be plenty of nomads at 14 mile.

Also would be nice but not necessary to be able to have a small fire at night, hence May - October I believe fires are allowed.

Now if you have an area that you think is better (camping, fishing, access) then please share your opinion. Not really looking to head further than Coral Bay at this stage.

Just looking to get back to basics with the bro, beach camping, fishing and a beer as he is coming from over east.

Cheers

Scotty

Funny as- 374 views now. Never been there, but parents have, they said the south is better for solitude.

Maybe try the Grey Nomads forum. LOL

Tell him around the campfire where you got your info from (grey nomads) then you can call each other old farts.

Just do the road trip and enjoy yourselves.

Cheers Davmor, 399 views and counting - haha

I was hoping that I didnt have to resort to facebook, now I will have to put up with trolls, bad advice and a few friend requests from Russia.

I actually thought it was a popular spot but maybe the camping/boating scene for this area on here is minimal.

I’ve been to Waroora a few

Fri, 2019-02-22 15:00

I’ve been to Warroora a few times. Always done well beach fishing in the evenings. Never taken a boat in there.  The more northern spots look better for beach launch from memory. Sandy Pt or 14 mile would be my pick. I have heard that trying to get a boat out when the southerly comes up can be pretty dangerous. The surf wraps around the coast.

Hey mate,Been a lot of years

 Hey mate,

Been a lot of years but we went down there in 2010 with a Troopie and a 4.6m tinnie. We camped at south end, and to be hoinest we really should have gone up to 14 mile. I wanted to avoid the crowds hence our decision... We had a hard time towing in the last sections of track due to the soft sand, not sure how it is now. The camping was great, we were behind the foredune on the beach. Make sure you BYO timber and follow the rules of the station.

Our big issue was launching the boat. To this day Ill never forget the experience! At the time we were there (July) the beach was super soft and extremely steep as the swell was dumping against it. With assistance from more seasoned campers we ofloaded the tinnie and pointed it down beach on rollers. With the motor running we waited for a break in the swells and 4 guys pushed the boat out while I was at the helm ready to go. I only just made it out safely, and we had to moor the boat overnight for the week as it was too dangerous and difficult to launch and retrieve every day. I aided a few more boats with the launch and it was all pretty hairy stuff. Watched a bloke get totally vertical and almost flip backwards in a 4m tinny...

I would swim to the boat each day and drop it back on the anchor to the point the missus could wade out. But one day she copped an overhead shore dump that flattened her and all our stuff along the beach... Cant say she was too keen for the rest of the trip! We found loading and unloading in the southern corner provided some more protection and perhaps would have been the better place to be camped.

Retrieving was no less exciting a week later either! We chose a low swell day and i ran the boat onto the beach with a swell, where it was promptly hooked to a snatch strap of a 4WD at the top and dragged to safety... After that we never went back and have been going to Ningaloo Station ever since!

As for the fishing and diving, we found it ok. It was tough going to begin with as we were unfamilar with the area and being in the marine park I was unable to spear demersals. Once we found a few lumps to the south of camp it was good and we were able to sort a feed.

All up, I think the trip for us was a huge eye opener! We lacked experience at the time and South End put us way over our heads in launch and retrieve and the logistics of dealing with a beach thats not overly protected from the swell as it doesnt have the protection of a lagoon or outer reef. We wished we had braved the crowds and gone to 14 mile, but the idea of retriving the boat and moving camp were too much so we stuck at it.

Its a stunning piece of coast and my favouite place in all Aus. The fishing can be off tap all along that coast if you can dial in! If your after an easier boating experience however I would suggest brave the track into Ningaloo Station, google maps research will show you it is far more protected and the ease for boat launching is a huge plus.

Thats just my 2 cents...

Sam

Fri, 2019-02-22 16:40

 if u mean Warroora station

south end has a beach launch which is do able in a <5m easily

its  a big bay - i leave mine in, anchored if fair weather forecast- sand is fairly hard and easy  to launch from

i have used the old maxtrax for other people though - and gave them a  fair tug with the cruiser to get em out

campsites are 1st in bestdressed- u cant book which i love

gotta take everything with u though the shop does have the basics - even some lures and beer limited range of flavours tho

there is rubbish dumbs -please use them dont bury or burn

there are chem toilet dumbs -u will need one to camp- they have checked that i had 1 in the past

fishing is good pretty much everywhere

lots of painted cray on snorkel- if u can eat that shit

there are some nice private campsite just north of the launch even some with good shade

if u see a float on a  post -its campsite

let the tyres down when u turn off the main drag - it only gets worse sooner u do it the better

the shop will give u a map when u get there - i can tfind an old one to scan for u

fish are same as everywhere somedays feast some famine- but there are lots

if to windy for boats

be careful the middle section has surf breaks and good fishing - but watch 4 king waves

north end supposed to have the better campsites- i ve never bothered

Before complaining that no one is giving you info, you could try spelling it remotely correct lol.
I saw the header, and didnt connect the 2 in passing.

Cheers guys, really good

Cheers guys, really good advice.
Sorry about the shortened name to Warra, hate names that cause a speech impediment and everyone I spoke to called it Warra so it stuck without thinking twice.
Anyway, jumped on the station hoppers page on fbook and came up trumps with a few in the know.
Good info all round.

 That is how it is

Fri, 2019-02-22 23:55

That is how it is pronounced, Warra.
Just like Abrolhos is pronounced Abrolis, but if I see it spelt like that I often think "how will they find it if they even fkn spell it!" Lol

Quite a few years since Ive been there, so cant offer too much advice sorry!

What usually happens is

Sat, 2019-02-23 01:00

When no one gives you any info it means it's a really good spot we stayed at the homestead. Launched the boat at Sandy point and left it in the water for 5 days. If you have a half decent chart plotter the sanctuary are clearly marked. It was blowing it got a off but still forced myself to go past the breakers and got into spangos everyday. Best session I got 7. Can only imagine what you could do with a glass off. Another family was camping there for a few weeks and they set up a mooring floats which is what I will be doing next and running a 2ndh anchor. We launched on a high and retrieved on a low and my boat is 5m. Heaps of ghost crabs at night which make excellent burley!
