Warnbro Sound Crabs

I noticed last week that a professional has started crabbing in Warnbro Sound.

Has anyone had a try themselves yet?

I can't imagine the pro's are going to fish there if the crabs aren't in.

 I have noticed previously

I have noticed previously that the commercial guys put a few occy pots in the sound. Maybe this is what you saw when you were out as I thought it would be too early for crabs??

They were pulling about 12 pots and had then only about 400mt from the shore just south of the old Waki pub site.

I thought it was too early but i had the binoculars out and they were definately pulling crab pots.

interesting thats for sure? I wonder what they know? It may be worth dropping a couple of drop nets out around long point in the deeper water and see what happens....

 Sometimes fisheries dept

Mon, 2013-09-16 09:49

Sometimes fisheries dept will go with the pros , generally out of season and only once a week ( pros drop them one day , then fisheries go with them the next day as I understand it )

all for research purposes only apparently !!  This may be what's happening out there at the moment perhaps !!

The pro crabber usually

Tue, 2013-09-17 09:15

The pro crabber usually starts in September and you can buy from him direct. You will find that 95% of his crabs at the moment are females if its the same as a few years ago. I mentioned it to a fisheries inspector at the ramp a few years ago and he said he would look into it. Crying shame I reackon.
