WA fishery wins world reputation - Mandurah Blue swimmer crabs
My 2 cents worth.... It's great that Peel-Harvey blue swimmer crab fishery has been recognised like this but more has to be done to combat the pilfering turds that constantly take undesized crabs and more than their bag limit.. Fisheries have made some significant arrests this year but I wonder how many don't get caught...

WA’s most popular recreational fishery is attracting international attention after achieving a blue-chip rating for sustainability.
The Peel-Harvey blue swimmer crab fishery will net a world-first today when it becomes the first recognised by the Marine Stewardship Council as sustainable for shared use by recreational fishers and commercial operators.
The region’s commercial sea mullet fishery also got a tick of approval from the international not-for-profit organisation formed to help protect global fish stocks.
Mandurah Licensed Fishermen’s Association president Damien Bell, a long-time crab fisher, said the certification was a triumph for recreational and commercial interests.
“We have been providing WA with some of the best, most sustainable seafood for many years and we wouldn’t be here today if we weren’t sustainable in our practices,” he said.
“I’m proud that the fishery has been recognised by an independent third party as sustainable.”

I am heartened by the fact that Rec and Commercial have worked together on this and hope that this will spread through other fisheries.
Time has passed for both to be at logger heads while green groups chip away unseen...
