Vex Bottom Meat

So , who has used these things? I bought one for a laugh the other day. I havent been fishing for about 6 months due to one thing or another , so needed some hooks and spotted these bottom meats and thought i would try. Picked up a smal dhu and a flathead that must have come up of the bottom to commit suicide lol , on a pretty quiet day by all reports. I was pretty impressed lots of hooks and shiny bits and you can add bait ( im Old school lol) . So just wondering anyone else used them and what size configuration for particular species do you guys use?

Cheers from a non lure user maybe lol.

 Check out Serious rigs mate.

Check out Serious rigs mate. They do a similar jig but the head is a whiting shape. I have been fishing them for the last few months with a good success rate.

Plenty of good pics with 'vexed' fish on their FB page.

Have a look at the giveaway thread;

Big John does a jig head version and you can make your own for a fraction of the price.
They sure are convenient though.

Great for cod

Mon, 2021-09-27 14:40

In the N/W

Load up with a good strip bait, let it hit the bottom then wind up a couple of meters.

After a couple of pickers have said hello mr cod smashes it.
Couple of large Rankins and good size E.cods on a pretty well shut down full moon for us.

Bit of a last resort but still very effective.

Pretty well picked up all my Dhuies and pinkies on them last summer after normal baits were very quite. Lazy man fishing though.

I make my own, I think the plastic squid on them affects hookup rate.  I just use a 4 oz elevator head with 3 snelled japanese thin wire hooks on 120 lb assist cord.  Works better than any other rig I've found.

Best bait is a strip of King Wrasse.

Have hooked Pinky, Dhuie, Cuttlefish, and all manner of bottom pickers with this rig.

Most successful rig I've found.

I use them

 And I'm a big fan.

Caught some serious Dhues with them in the last year and used them for the anual Coral Bay trip.

Lighter style of fishing which I prefer.

They work but there is alot

Tue, 2021-09-28 08:11

They work but there is alot of variations now like hp tackle have there's Abrolhos Tackle have there's and cape Tackle have there's witch are all WA Made and they work. One thing I don't like about the new bottom meat with the soft glow occy it doesn't lake long if there's wrasse and leather jackets aroumd

Alibaba Crap

Tue, 2021-09-28 09:34

Pretty much all the bottom meat products are all Alibaba crap with poor quality hooks. I got gifted a few bottom meat type jigs over the last couple of years as long as I posted whatever I caught all over social media. Pretty much all of them had crap quality hooks that bend. Silly posted a link above to Mack dog tackle, those ones are pretty good because they are made local and use a quality hook. Used Cape tackle depth charge ones as well.... Dont look that great but at least they use quality hooks.

In my honest opinion nothing beats a snelled hook with a big ball sinker.

Cheers

 I’ve found double snelled

Tue, 2021-09-28 10:57

I’ve found double snelled 6/0 circle hooks with a size 5 bean sinker, lumo squid and crimp 30cm up the line to be just as effective, gets snagged less and doesn’t make you cry if you lose a rig.

Tue, 2021-09-28 13:46

Cheers guys , pretty much summed up my thoughts , ah well i got them for free ill use them till they go to davey jones locker and then go back to my 9/0 snelled big guns on a patternoster. They are definately to expensive to use over rocky ground , paj man used to use a gang with a bean sinker and a plastic squid squeezed over the top seemed to work fine.
