Come back to the ramp today, couple of uni students surveying boaties on what they caught where they caught it how many they caught what bycatch, what else do you use your boat for! What do you think of the new rules, your preferences to closure and restocking. First thing I asked is where the data collected goes? Answer stored and shared with government agencies. I politely denied the request and said I've done my last survey .

Ramp?
What ramp? Is a heap of surveys going on at the moment with UWA around the use of Cockburn Sound.
These ones are a great chance to have your say on Westport and how the new port could affect the sound fishery.

It was cockburn. The Westport development will be a shocker but I've done slot with that one gor work. These data collection surveys are a crape shoot. Companies spin the data, environmental studies suddenly say yeh it shouldn't have an effect. The honest truth pushed out for productivity and profits.

UWA's Oceans Institute is
UWA's Oceans Institute is one of the most highly respected marine learning centres in the world. They have completed countless studies and projects that have greatly benefitted our understanding of the marine ecosystems and species behaviour.
I find people's fear of the big bad government, and resultant reticence to participate in these studies ridiculous. These studies are shared also with the public. Some of the best are the ones one crayfish and bait/bait placement which basically tell you what to use in which environment and where to put your pots in relation to depth vs structure.

nah sorry mulie,
fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me. fool me six times, stick a fire extinguisher up my asshole.
over the last few years, I have participated in a number of fisheries, recfishwest, "Fishery volunteer" surveys, and i/we have been destroyed by the results, whether good or bad. it gets construed into whatever agenda they seem fit:
* "I caught heaps of fish" - response: "youre catching too many fish, shut it down"
* "I didnt catch any fish" - response: "theres not enough fish, shut it down"
* "my fish got taken by sharks" - response: "these count towards your catch, and youre now taking more fish than you should. shut it down"
you can not blame anyone on here for not wanting to participate. the taste is still (and always will be IMO) sour, from the last round of "surveys" and new ban extensions. if you look at any fisheries newsbuletin since, they are gloating that they have full support from rec fishers regarding the new bans...
the only shit thing is, that there will be inexperienced people that will still participate in these surveys. their answers dont reflect what is going on out there, but the data will still be used to determine our future.

I've corresponded and had a good conversation with Punch about shark predation and fishing in general. How many people have taken the time to email him or their local member about their concerns? If we don't do it, and don't participate in studies, the information they get will be very narrow and inaccurate.

Punch is a clueless puppet.
Punch is a clueless puppet. Playing to the agendas of the clowns below him. He's probably never touched a rod and he is just led to believe what ever bullshit the Karen below his desk feeds him. It's clear when you watch any of his interviews or press releases that he only relays what he is told and he is lost when questions stray. Stop feeding the beasts that feed him I say. Those "good conversations" you've had will also come back and bite you.

I emailed and rang (answering machine that wouldnt accept any more messages...) Punchy, my local member Peter Tinley, fisheries, etc. all to ZERO avail.
My point is they construe and cherry pick the answers to suit there agenda. this is massively evident with the multi choice"survey" Fisheries supplied when they announced the ban increase:
* what would you prefer:
a) 9 month ban?
b) 10 month ban?
c) 6 month ban?
there was no option to tick NO BAN EXTENSION!!
same with the shark predation issue... the volunteer surveyors at coral bay didnt ask about shark predation, whan it was clearly a massive issue amongst all at the fillet table. this topic is so hot ATM, but Fisheries, Punch, DPAW, etc etc are putting their headsin the sand!! its a fucking joke.

I wouldn't be filling in
I wouldn't be filling in anything from UWA it was and still maybe the home of jessica murrwig the so called marine expert who started the fish restrictions because her and her mates couldn't find enough dhuies with their cameras 0 science but a lot of noise was always her calling card being a high standing member of PEW should have been enough to have all her input chucked in the bin even fisheries admitted once her anti fishing stance made her so called studies not worth the paper they were written on because of her one sided aligince to pew.

Camera locations
Many years ago I recall a discussion I had with a charter boat skipper about the location of the cameras Jessica Meeuwig used in her science. He said he had it on very good authority that the cameras were located out on the barren sand far away from any structure.

I'm all for science Andy
But when science comes with an agenda, it's no longer science.

Agreed. That American bird
Agreed. That American bird is totally against fishing in any form so you are just feeding the beast. Now twiggy is throwing millions at them to make people forget about raping the Pilbara, they can manipulate the data satisfy any agenda.
I don't trust them and I got the Covid jab...that's how much I don't trust UWA

Meauwig is a beauty, greeny on the outside while her hubby wanted to drill for oil off Perth and has fracked the fuck out of the Kimberley.... go figure.
We see Murdoch students up here yearly doing fisheries dirty work, they get nothing from us and politely told why to open there eyes.
We achieve more via our fishing club having input and using Recfishwest for what they are there for.

My assumption that the data
My assumption that the data collected by UWA was for the fishing bans was probably wrong. It seems they are surveying people for the Westport development in the cockburn sound! This data will no doubt be the environmental tick they need too close off another part of our fisherie. These studies never really find in favour of the average person or the environment. My opinion.
