Ultimate fishing holiday to be

G’day fishing people!

i am leaving my farm on Sunday to start a 3 month trip from central vic through the middle of aus, along the Gibb River Road and down the west coast.

i plan on land based fishing every creek, ocean, bay and puddle I can and hiring a tinny for a week in Exmouth.

Ive got lots of hard body lures and every plastic you could poke a stick at.

the problem I’m having is that I’ve never really fished out of vic and don’t exactly know where

to go or what to fish for from shore lines.

Ive got a 10wt fly outfit I’m keen on using, I can cast well but have never hooked a fish, also small and large spin rods, just about all the gear and some idea(?)

ideally I’d like to catch as many species of fish as possible over the biggest fish possible.

so if you had a month to drive down the west coast of WA, where would you stop and how/what

would you fish for?

if I come across anyone that has a boat and a seat or 2 for missus, I can be a good decky (cooking, cleaning, fuel, beers etc)

hope to to see some of you out there and can’t wait to experience the proper Australia!!

Shore based

Don't neglect the accesses on the west side at Exmouth for big spanglies or the Mildura wreck and oyster beds for queenies.

Quobba coast through to Red Bluff, plenty of spots to fish if the wind is up.

Steep Point if you have 4x4 but remember to make a booking first.

Will be wrong time of the year for salmon down the south west corner but  still good fish to be caught from the Windmills, Sugar loaf, Mitchells rocks, Boranup, Bobs Hollow or along the south coast at White or Black point, Parrys beach, Bornholm , the Salmon Holes

Don't be afraid to ask when you get closer as I am sure the members will fill in the finer details on where and when to fish

thanks for the responses!

ill defiantly catch up for a beer feral, I used to deal with a few blokes in Karratha Through work, could be a small world

we have a capable 4x4 and are fully self sufficient but everything I’ve read about quobba and steep point suggests danger rock fishing which turns me off a bit. Once bitten twice shy I guess

So many spots so little time.

If the cliffs are not your thing. The area around steep point has excellent shallow water fishing a  just a matter of time and tide. The beaches around waroora and ningaloo are some of my favorites, light tackle paradise.  You do need to book a camp spot. Point Sampson has great spots for mud crabs and the odd barra when it's hot. Goodluck

Not to be?

i have made it to WA!

im camping out near the Fitzroy river now and let me tell ya, the fishing has been $h!t! Maybe it’s bad luck but I have not caught a fish bigger than my hand!

all through NT was the same unfortunately..

if you can name a lure, I’ve thrown it, live baits, dead baits, floated, sunk, skipped, popped etc

i watched 2 mtr plus threadys smashing poddy mullet in the shallows today, couldn’t even get a follow!

ive even struggled to catch a legal mud crab or even a cherubin* dispite watching one stick its head in my trap.

i like to say I’m going to sell all my gear and just buy some seafood but I can’t admit defeat!

broome tomorrow for a couple nights in a proper bed and a shower, hopefully I can bend a rod there.

sorry for the dismal report (and the spelling) lads

ps I heard 3 “boofs” from my tent as I type this..
