Tuff Tackle??

Is anybody using rods or reels by Tuff Tackle?

I have been looking at their webpage and reckon i might ry one of their combos out.  Looking at the Diablo 10000 reel.  30kg of drag, carbontex drag, full alloy construction, decent line capacity.  http://www.tufftackle.com.au/diablosniper10000.html  Seems to tick all the boxes.  Reckon i will put it on their 6'8" all purpose rod.   http://www.tufftackle.com.au/tt50to80lbtroll.html.  .

Anyone know of the quality etc.  Living in Morawa, and my boat being in Perth, tends to limit fishing expeditions, so i cant really justify spending heaps.  At $325 for the combo, this fits into my $500 budget quite nicely with enough left over for some decent 50lb braid and few other bits and pieces.

looks like it should cover  all bases and be just the trick for the Kalbarri trip at christmas; bottom bouncing, trolling, belting out a big twisty for some tuna.  With my 3kg spin and 6kg spin, should be able to cover anything the come up.

Note that they are called "tuff" not "tough" ;)

Save your money for something that wont snap the knob off nor have the drag knob corrode from the inside out after a month or two. You wont get anything close to silky drag at 30kg.... Maybe lockup, but thats not drag. At less than 10kg, its not that smooth either. Heavyyyy too. I think they used to have a longer warranty before? But good luck getting anything fixed. At least they reduced the price.

Fair number of of other reels out there that would do what you want nicely though and fit your budget with a good rod.

im just going to be blunt and honest. theyre a piece of shit. dont waste your money on it, theyre known for their bad reputation.. just do some research and youll know what im talking about.

have a look at the okuma salina ii, theyre crazy cheap at the moment, you can pick them up for around $199 the reel alone - at that price, you really cant go wrong. 25kg stated drag, and fairly smooth aswell

The Okuma looks pretty good, lots of features and specs for the price.  What would be a good all round rod i can match it with.  Keeping in mind i want to be able to bottom bounce with bait, troll, and cast off the front of the tinny.  So somthing in the order of 6'5" upwards, to fish 50ld braid.  I use loonnnnnng wind on leaders to help with the shock absorbsion when trolling.  I might even give this jigging caper a crack!!

you could always get a matching okuma salina ii rod to suit it. they come in 15, 24 and 37kg... would be ideal for the reel and the type of fishing youre intending to do. combo works out at a very good price

I beleive you can get the Salina even cheaper than that. They are good reels and have seen a 50kg GT being pulled in on a Salina. The V-System reels would be worth a look, come in at just under $300, great value

TUFF TACKLE

Fri, 2011-11-04 12:26

I have 3 Tuff Tackle reels 4000,8000,10000 and would highly recommend them. There was some issues with the very early models ie weak handles ect but this was sorted long ago.  The main problem was the reels were called diablos snipers and there was also a cheap import of the same name that was often confussed. The stand at the Mandurah Boat Show selling the electric reels ect, had a few of the rods and reels however they were not for sale. I was told that they have sold over 4000 reels now so they are popular some were.  last week I was jigging with my 8000 on a 50lb Fin Nor next to me was a 850 Fin Nor Offshore, and a Stella 20000 we all caught good fish and no ones drag seemed any smoother or better than the next persons. Best to talk to someone that has one, than listen to people that have heard stories but never used or seen one.  The River to Reef fishing show series in NZ used only Tuff Tackle rods and reels some good jigging action and big kings on that series.

Main problem was a cheap import of the same name? Lol. The reels I saw fail were all direct from the tuff tackle distributor ;) I can almost count on both hands reels i've seen fail ;)

I gave my opinion because my mate (who I fished with weekly) had one that has broken twice now internally,

I have used it and while it worked fine, the fact that it broke twice made me look elsewhere.

If you want CRAP then buy CRAP, i would rather spend my money on a Daiwa catalina or even a exceler DA. Heck i would rather a penn 950ssm over a tufftackle

i watch that show on foxtel all the time and i would have to say those rods they use on the N.Z. series have the worst action i have ever seen, most of them look like "tapouts" double flex rod with a huge flat spot in the middle so i guess all tuff tackle is shit not just the reels!!!!  cheers
