Trailer springs

 Hi,

I need to get the springs replaced on the trailer, the axle also needs some surface rust removed. I was quoted about $400, is this a good price?

Dear

Sounds a bit dear to me if its a single axle.

Springs usually go for about $80-$100 a pair including new U bolts and a wire brush is about $7 to get the rust off.

How did you take the boat off

Did you leave the boat on the trailer, mine is a heavy fiberglass boat. It is about 15-16ft, not sure how to take it off when it is not in the water?

Make sum money

Someone could make some decent money doing everybodies trailer repairs on this site, would be a good little side spin for someone that is maybe semi retired and offering this service at a reasonable cost

Replaced springs, hangers (moved forward), hubs and bearings on a single axle trailer 4 weeks ago, cost me $190 from AWB Bearings in Bunbury, very straight forward. i had the 7 springs which were going to cost $90 for the pair but the bloke was telling to try a different kind of spring, cost an extra $20 and was a single leaf 1400kg spring, he was saying the they last longer than multi leafs because you cant wash out the salt water properly between multi leaf springs which makes them rust and seperate.

To do everything took a lazy 3 hours

Cost were

$110 2 x single leaf slipper springs

$60 2 x holden hubs WITH bearings kits (BCF charges about $20 -$25 per bearing kit without hubs)

$20 U bolts and all the other little bits and pieces

yeah mate mines 15 foot fibreglass boat aswell and yeah i left it on the trailer just jack it up on the axel and use axel stands to support the trailer, do one side at a time. its actually quite a simple job once you start.
