Towing brackets Needed?
Hi Guys
Just purched a new 150 HP Mercury and there is no towing bracket like i had with my old Eevrude . The new 150 is 206KG with the old Evenrude coming in arruond 140 to 160KG. That is fair bit more weight on rear end of my rebuilt Voyerger GHIA incuding a beefed up brand new transon when i bought the boat three years ago.
Mercuy advise using an accessory outboard support devise. There is diagram of a devise that staps the middle of the bottom leg to the trailer.
Mercury also have note of IMPORTANT: pointing out. Do not rely on the poer/trim tilt system or tilt support lever to maintain proper ground clearance for trailering. The outboard tilt support lever is not intened to support the outboard for trailering.
Just wondering if you guys have come up with a safe way to secure the motor for trailering as Mercury dont seem to have anthing to offer in the way of of a standard bracket for this pupose.
Thanks in advance for any help with ideas on what to use?

Just tilt the engine about a foot higher than the lowest point of the trailer at the stern and it will be fine. Unless you’re taking your trailer over huge pot holes for long distances it should be ok.

A block of wood,
I use a piece of about 4 X 2 in pine under the rams and onto the bracket, just drop the motor onto this and it works fine. The bracket partly embeds itself in the pine so it won't move.

Wouldn’t be any more stress
Wouldn’t be any more stress on your transom than it would cop on the water? I don’t use anything but I only tow for 5mins each way

Just read the Mercury blurb
Seeing as I'm looking at a 5800 k towing adventure sometime this year I've been researching the pros and cons of up v down. If you can have enough height under your skegs and the road they recommend leaving it down. This makes sense to me as the donk (s) wont be having the lever effect of a motor being tilted.
