TM 260 Tranducer

Coud anyone tell me if the 1kw TM260 tranducer on a Furuno 585 is ok in 40m to 80m

I am thinking of upgrading from 600w to 1kw for the occasional deeper fishing.

Will i need to adjust settings on different depths .

 Yeah that's exactly what I

Yeah that's exactly what I run. It's a perfect setup as far as I'm concerned, but you need to make sure the unit is tweaked to it's optimal for the depth range you want to fish.

Good in 80

Very narrow beam in 40, I run a 258 around perth - got a 260 in a wet box as well but find it easier to use the elliptical beam in 30-40m then swap plugs if heading out 100m+

TM260

Thanks..

Is it possible to reduce the power outage on the Furuno 585 so you can bring it down to replicate the 600w transducer  in 40m to 100m then turn it back up to 1kw transducer for 100m plus.

Have read that the TM260 is not as good as the 600w in 40m to 100m but is outstanding in 100m plus.

My concern is i generally fish 40m to 100m and occasionally fish 100m plus and have found i start losing bottom at 180m with 600w.

Power is not the issue, on

Power is not the issue, on auto gain (which is fine under 100m) the unit will reduce power automatically.

The issue is beam width, which is very narrow on the TM260, making it great for deep water and will give extraordinary detail in shallow water but the small beam makes it hard to find new ground and find old spots.

To be honest, if your doing 95 percent of fishing in less than 80 m, you will get better results with a B744 with performance fairings through the hull, and it's heaps cheaper. Most people balk at drilling a hole in the hull......once you have gone through hull, you will never go back to transom mount.

If you plan on going deeper than 150m, go the 1 kw.

Airmar Transom-Mounted

Airmar Transom-Mounted Transducer Comparison

  • P66 : 600W : Good : Benchmark model for comparison
  • TM258 : 1kW : Better : 25 times more sensitive at 50 kHz, 16 times more sensitive at 200 kHz
  • TM260 : 1kW : Superb : 50 times more sensitive at 50 kHz, 13 times more sensitive at 200 kHz

We have quite a few regulars that are running a TM260 paired up with a FCV585/587 and swear by it.

I've seen both in use and you would be hard picked to notice a difference, however, if I was going to get one for my own boat I would go the 260.

Cheers
