when we were kids we used to surf the stationary waves that formed when the river broke, got washed a few hundred metres out to sea swim in then go again. the best part was the sand bar that was left would create an awesome peak when the swell was up.
a few 2am missions with the shovel before a good swell often happened
once saved two young kids 7-9 that were playing on the edge and it collapsed both went in, lucky i had my bodyboard under my arm was a scary few minutes chasing them out to sea.
now that ive seen the state of the river further up stream i wish it wouldnt break so often

sort of thing that can turn in a minute into a tragedy if your not aware & keeping a close reign on your kids

This always reminds me
When I was a young bloke, a heap of KG whiting swam into the river before the bar closed. Very good memories of a big session up near the dessert with my pop then going back to a family friend's house to eat them that afternoon.
The place has changed a lot for me in the past 15 years.

yep I know how quick things can go wrong! I almost became a statistic at the same spot when I was a wee tacker! spun out how you can be having so much fun one second then you just don't know what the hell is going on! but yeah should be some fish up there now I reckon. get amongst it
