Thanks Coburn and Fremantle Sea Rescue for the tow
Submitted by Tony Halliday on Tue, 2010-04-06 08:18
Yip, had to hitch a tow back on monday from back of Gardener Island, as the donk would not fire up.
We had fished the Parmelia Banks with little success and moved a few times. Then just after 12 we decided to move a again and the motor kept turning, but no fire in the hole!
oh well, it happens, now to find out what it was

watched the fellas as Cockburn Sea Rescue put the engines in the cat and do all the fiddlie stuff, think they are yahama deisel, and yes Graham and his crew do a fantastic job, they moved a concrete slab that was put down on the floating pad (No 1 jetty) so it wouldn't break up (slab from old old jetty) that on low tide would interfer with Sea Rescue's props driving on at out ramp, moved it like it was a piece of paper.

yip they towed that 25 foot
yip they towed that 25 foot Berty at 12 knots with ease and my boats HEAVY!!!!
Also the control in maneuvering it was impressive, turns on dime and stands dead-still in the water when it's needed, what a great set-up.
I'd say if it was my powerball luck tomorrow, then a 9.5m Leisure Cat with twin Yanmars would be on the shopping list for sure...:-)

to check for no spark
what i do on small engines, like dirt bikes, lawn mowers
you get a sparkplug and put it inside the cap and ground it up against the head or cylinder and turn over the engine, a nice blue spark should be present
check the fuses

well with a MPI motor they
well with a MPI motor they say it's not a good thing to mess with the CDI ignition system, cause blowing that can be costly.
I hope to find out today what the mechanic says, otherwise it's no fishing again this weekend :-(

We been waiting for the
We been waiting for the delivery of a new glass bowl fuel filter, seems most of the petrol ones can't handle the high fuel flow needs of the big donk.
ps Mercuiser actually don't recommend a second inline filter and warned us against it due to fuel starvation issues. But we sourced a 100 liter per hour max flow one, that going in Monday.
So yesterday I just finished off doing rod holders, new VHF aerial and some wiring cleaned up, also a bit of work on the transducer set-up ( refining the flow of water over it)
But it was killing watching the boats coming back with crays and fish... :-(
