Leaving early tomorrow, returning Friday. Launching at Baba Head  , camping on board , probably going around to spend a night at Tea Tree. Tinny fishing is generally good there--the best seems to be straight west of the headland at Tea Tree, in the big inlet channel, rising tide in the late afternoon. or to just keep the kids occupied, straight out from the camp over the mud, millions of mostly undersized, but some sized, pinks there usually in the later afternoon. You can catch fish there all day, if the tide isn't too low.The weather is looking good mornings up to lunch time during this week, when it goes calm you can troll small lures in the deep channel and catch school mackerel. 

I was there in June, at prickly point though not Tea tree.  Snapper were everywhere, not huge, mostly aroung the 600 - 700 mark.  Worth a try anywhere, the best spot of the week for us was in 1.5 mtrs over flat sand with a bare minimum af gravel patches. Looked like nothing, we drifted over it having a beer and lunch and it went nuts for about an hour and a half, middle of the day, mid tide.  Caught and released I reckon 25 size pinks.  There's not a chance I would have chosen to fish thaty spot by looking at it.  That said anywhere you can find a little lump, island, rock, or broken weed will generally work as well.  Bigger models are generally about more around sunset just after.  Shallow water, minimal structure means you can fish very light too, and definitely no lead required. Have fun and good luck, it's a cracking spot even on the off chance you don't catch fish. Road in was average at best.

 Cracked it with the weather. Got there 4 hours  late due to a mechanical drama out of the Overlander, got there with "just" enough water to get it off the trailer at Baba Head. SW blowing, went up to 3 Bays and dropped the pick. Still a bit of a southerly in the morning, but it dropped off to nothing, then came up a light SW in the afternoon. Camped at Salutation that night, it actually blew really hard for a while during the night, next morning was a light easterly, glassed off most of the day, got hot.  Camped at Tea Tree the third night, bit of a SW, went east again overnight for another beautiful day. Pulled out just before high tide at midday Friday.  It really doesn't get any better than that up there, this time of year. 

Fish were pretty good, caught a fair number 55-60cm just fishing the shallows, along with more than an average number of size black snapper, up to 51cm.  Dropped a good 70cm pink right next to the boat, 2m of water in the middle of the day, go figure. And the two biggest bream I have ever caught 40 and 42 cm 

 bit different for us ranmar, we got up thursday, had a ball with my youngest, catching baby snap after baby snap, sheesh i think she hooked 30 of them but all no more than 20-30cm

friday was similar, friday night all hell broke loose. caravan awning flapping and trying to break, my 4wd awning ended up all twisted and screwed, i got out of bed 30,000 times thinking my tinnie would be somewhere halfway to denham.  Saturday mornign was white capping in the bay (tea tree) i check teh forecast and as sunday looked even worse we high tailed it home. no keepers fro me but soem awesome pics and memories regardless.

 The forecast for the week didn't really change after last Sunday, and it actually did exactly what it forecast, or better, all week. It was forecast to blow up Friday night, so we pulled out Friday lunchtime. It did really blow hard for a while  Wednesday night, but dropped off an went around early hours. Nice to jag it, pity you didn't. September-October up there is either beautiful or bloody filthy, luck of the draw. We used to always snag a glass-off and temps near 40 deg, complete with flies, on the day we would be packing up the camper.  One advantage for us with camping on the boat, ( as long as the tide is high enough)  the pack-up and preparation to travel only takes a half-hour, my wife loves it.

Our first trip up ther had a weather window of an hour at 9 in the morning then blew the sheep off the rocks until the following morning. 10 day trip had one or two workable days of that I could take the kids out.

Second trip only had one day of unworkable wind out of 7 at the same time of year.

It is certainly very exposed when the weather shits the bed.

  For those who are thinking of travelling up this way in the future it may be food for thought to think of coming up earlier in the year.

The wind usually starts cranking up north of Kalbarri to  Exmouth, mid August and continues through to the end of February. If you are lucky you might cop a couple of days where it drops off but toherwise its SE 15-20knots in the morning swinging S to SW 20 to 25 knots around noon.
