They both sound very interesting mate especially if you want to be a deckie, it all depends on what you want to do yourself mate, take time to read them all carefully and which certificate will best suit you ..

From what you have posted i can see these opportunities which you can obviously read about but just to make things clearer:

Cert 1 - Seafood industry

- Gain employment as a deckhand on a commercial boat

- Skipper's ticket (driving boats)

- General boat safety

- Senior First Aid (which is great for any job really)

Cert 1 Transport and Distribution

- Skipper's ticket

- General boat safety

- Senior first aid

- Deckhand employment

They both seem to be the same thing but when you progress on they will lead you into different kinds of jobs, obviously you can advance to different certificates e.g a cert 2 for more advanced training and learning as well.

Many different types of deckies, not trying to cut your dreams short, but if you are thinking career, I'd be looking at alternatives.....

Depends if you want to drive

Wed, 2008-07-23 12:17

Depends if you want to drive - option 1
or if you want to work - option 2

I would talk to the careers officer at your school or even better head down to challenger Tafe in freo and talk to an office there.

If I was a young fella your age OT I would look at getting into aquaculture, exciting and extreme amounts of potential.  I've just been reading the latest fisheries report on yellowtail king aquaculture, tis cool stuff!!
