depends what you are after mate. in singapore just head down to beach road and have a good look around from the intersection of arab street/beach rd onwards. a couple of names to look out for would be Sabre Tackle, Born 2 Fish and Joe's tackle but there are heaps more. Sabre has a pretty decent selection of halco lures and i think they specialise in owner hooks as well. But yeah usually just head into one shop and tell them what you are after and they will point you in the right direction. oh and always ask for a discount cos most of the shops will at least remove the GST fee for you :)
I just got back the other day so here's what I found:
Go to Beach Rd. There is 5 or 6 in the few hundred metres between Ophir Rd and Aliwal St. I visited all and spent over a hour in some, while minutes in others. Sabre is best for terminal gear- hooks, swivels, etc. Deep Sea was best for jigs but each store will have a few different brands. Joe's had some ok stuff too. I didn't find a store that really had a lot of good braid though. There are also a couple on the side streets just off this section of Beach Rd too.
Others worth seeing are Kaiser Pro Tackle and Anglers Outfitters, both are near Beach Rd.
One store that is a little out of the way but worth a visit is Fishing Buddy. Jump on the NE MRT (train) and get off at Braddon. It's then a 5 minute walk (easy to find with a map). They have some decent jigs and also had the largest spread of quality reels that I saw, and also stock all Jigging Master gear.
Google Maps is your best friend here, just write down a few addresses before you go and have a walk. Mind you, most don't open until 11am so don't go too early.
How much you like the stores there all depends on how many $$$ you want to spend and what fishing gear and styles appeal to you. There's plenty of cheap terminal gear there, plus some cheap copy jigs.
Have fun and enjoy the food, I did.
yupps. a place worth looking at for the higher end stuff would be Born 2 Fish. Sabre has REALLY good stock for jigs and all sorts of gibberish that you wouldnt think you need - but you'd buy them anyways cuz they're that cheap. Enjoy your trip to Singapore mate and dont forget to check out the night life. = )
