Bait
Hi
Did your bait get hit by blowies ? Last time I tried in the Swan (last summer) bait was ripped to shreds in minutes !

Swan river bait ;)
I always had best results on ox spleen when crabbing but doesn't last a minute in the Swan even in mesh baskets.
Chicken wings! crabs eat it up and blowies can't take the bone, $2.99 a kg at lennards and you'll only bait your pots once and last the whole day.

Na Ericl I use only chicken
Na Ericl I use only chicken when crabbing. The blowies dont go near it and its been more successful for me over the years than red meat or fish

Was out there this morning too. Had a flick for some flatties and covered alot of water from uwa down to the other side of point walter, and got nothing. The water was terrible. I saw a crabber out near point walter and he didn't get anything either.

blowies
Something I have used to beat the blowies is a tin of cat food with holes punched in it with a screwdriver then wire in through one of the holes works well

I tried cat food once in a tin. Me boat broke down and sea rescue gave me a tow. I asked them to pull my pots. As he was pulling one I asked if any crabs he said no crabs and no cats either mate. Was pretty pretty funny

Will try that
I read in a really old fishing book that blowie stips is a good flathead bait but is mostly left alone by other blowies.
havnt tried it though.

Mulies.
These are the best bait you can use. Put a couple into bait packet and drop them down. If there are any around, you'll know straight away and you'll need to keep moving to get your pots as the crabs will eventually eat them all. Make your packets out of gutter guard.
cheers
