black ass on plastic! My first ever BA and first ever go at reef bashing too so im happy with that. Dad had a big hook-up just after sunrise, bricked him after a couple mins, calling it for dhu-banger, but it came up off the bottom to hit the bait as it was sinking so we arent realy sure, maybe a big shnapper. Dad also got a ridiculously huge cuttly that wouldnt have even fit in the eski haha and i was spewing when he said he wanted to throw it back! Actually i was literally spewing early on in the morning, dang it was lumpy! First time ive chucked fishing off the ski!

Only one fish

Sun, 2011-08-07 20:08

for the day, yes as stated it was crappy early and was going to stop at the five for i was over it already. I invited the brother along for some rehab and this being his first shot at deep sea fishing turns around and says is this it, ok lets go it will drop off but i dont want you to get sick if we go out deep. 40 odd k out 75 m of water we have a look around few drifts nothing happening he struggling to hold the rodd, i dont even know if he is even holding bottom. So i headed to a lump myself and biggerfish had spotted a few weeks ago, drifting along i turn around and say to him are you getting any bites and hes got the rob all bent over face going RED, dam hes hooked the bottom, so i say give it hear it feels heavy no head shakes or anything that feels like a fish i made a little ground and it had a couple of deep pulls for the bottom. Its either a shark or you have hooked the bottom here you sort it out, so he starts to make some ground and its coming to the surface, pops up about 5m from the boat, i had to have another look. You wanker three trips in a row (thats another story), it went 18kg on the bathroom scales. another drift i start throwing my guts up, stuff this we are going home just as the water is looking good, happy the bro caught his first Dhue and his first deep sea fishing trip turned out allright.

Sun, 2011-08-07 22:37

That's fricken awesome brok just wish it was u who got it the smile on his face is one u will never forget and as a skipper I know that sometimes it feels better watching your deckies catch a decent fish. I hope u explained to your bro that u don't always catch one like that. Love your work brok u always put everyone else on the fish but I'm pretty sure it's your turn to hook up. When the boats fixed your my #1deckie it's your turn

Last of 4 days in Exmouth,

Sun, 2011-08-07 21:01

Last of 4 days in Exmouth, got some good weather today so hit the water early. Tantas was a bit busy with a comp on this weekend but got the boat in and got stuck in. Did'nt really get much worth talking about trolling, decided to give the bottom a crack in about 40 meters - BANG - nice Cobia at around 14kg. One guy and his young fellas had a nice red emporer to about 650 at the cleaning table out at the ramp.

As much as I like K-town I wish I didn't have to leave.

Headed out from Mangles Bay,

Mon, 2011-08-08 08:44

Headed out from Mangles Bay, Rocko before first light, orginal plan to chase some squid down.  First flick landed a nice one but after that nothing.  Just drifting around the end of the rock wall before the GI Causeway.  Picked up a good feed of KGW on the fresh squid though.  The midday glass - off was awesome too!

Yes Kcity weather crap

Mon, 2011-08-08 08:58

But calmer in the arvo, so went looking for squid, but then changed plans. Couldnt head out deep due to the NE wind.

All we could manage yesterday was a couple of stonker flags, one double the legal requirement, about 20 NW snapper of various types, with only 2 keepers, a houseload of what looked like snook, but probably baby barracouda (didnt have the correct pattern, and despite not being aware they are up here I would certainly say looked a hell of a lot like them), 2 fantastically coloured baby reds, and a price fish for the Mrs - a stoinker off a Dusky Morwong, that made her sh*t, calling a big red, only to have the deflation of the gray "not even" neighbours fish.

Still good to get out.
