Any of you lads had to slow down your fishing or give it up completley for a while to go back to the books? How did you cope? Possibly going to be doing a diploma in building and construction next year (night school as i have commitments and still need to work full time) and im a tad worried my life is going to end haha.

Pretty much had to give up fishing trips to go back to study. I Went from like 12 trips a year to possibly one in november and one next year in march.

I was doing ok with the work, study and fishing until I bought a house and kid no 3 turned up. That slowed things up a bit.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Gave up smoking, had 3 kids
Gave up smoking, had 3 kids and did 6 years of study whilst holding down a full time day job and still manged to get my fishing in. I did have an understanding wife and a boss who cut me some slack with the studying. Its doable, not easy but doable

Whats more important to you
Whats more important to you the study or the fishing. If you can answer that then you dont need the advice of those here. Pretty simple really.

A fisho is always a fisho
I remember during my first or second year of uni there was perths most amazing bonito run. Missed most of my morning classes as I spent everyday fishing. Also getting my license n my first 4by didn't help my study. So ending up doing an extra year of uni. Best years of my life, met awesome friends which I still fish with after almost 20 years. Went on countless fishing adventures with them. Even bought a boat together.

study
I am going down the same path Hoookt, It is a tough decision being that kids will also possibly be on my agenda in the next few years. There is no doubt that fishing is a good study break but unless you can afford to give up work something has to be sacrificed a bit. I was initially going to do an engineering degree but 8 years part time and studying remotely doesnt excite me and actually wont change my career path or pay too much as I am in construction management already. 8 years part time remotely would have so much strain being that I would be doing this while still working FIFO woukld mean zero fishing also. So some project managemment study like PMI would actually be of better use to me career wise and a shorter study period of 12 months without the on going deadlines.
