200 lb braid handline with 2 ft of occy strap to act as drag, 1 ft if over 30 kg........hahaha....good luck in 8m of water, almost unstoppable with anything approaching sporting gear.

Mate ive done it a few times in 10m's of water but been busted up way more often. The only way ive found to do it is to have someone drive the boat while you fight the fish. Gotta try and stay rite ontop of the fish and try not to give it much string. Ive done it a fair bit using pe 3. Generaly land 1 in 4 fish. Goodluck mate!

You tie the occy strap to the boats bollard, the other end to the 200 lb handline, when the occy strap breaks, you know its over 30 kg so just throw the handline over board and go home and have a beer......

Handline and gloves

Sun, 2012-01-29 16:05

As stated before, 300lb handline and some riggers gloves and make sure you don't stand in the loose line on the deck because you will regret it later if you do.

Its the only way IMO to catch them, you can feel every kick or head shake and feel the immense power that they have.

We used to get new deckies to catch cobia on a handline up north while shark fishing there, thats when you sort the men from the boys

tricks

Other tricks is to try not go too hard so they don't go psycho, but more times than not, your in trouble.  We used to get plenty down on the 3 mile in about 13m, but you lost more than you got up.
