unless your racing or skiing
Dont waste your money plus if you hit anything with an ally prop they just bend hit somthing with a stainless prop you have a greater chance of blowing your gearbox or snapping a drive shaft jmo

Cheers mate and pretty much
Cheers mate and pretty much was my Suzuki marine mech said when i asked him for a price on a new prop but more in terms of limited benefit for the cost in regard to ali v SS. I have a 5m glass boat with a DF90. I was really hoping to get a bit of extra torque for pushing through choppy conditions and was also going to look at going from 17 pitch to 19 pitch but Brett says this will only give me another 1-2knots at crusing speed so probably not worth the outlay until I actually need to replace my prop.

I'm with John on that one...A
I'm with John on that one...A good Stainless prop can be as low as 8% slippage..An alloy 3 blade at best is 14%...But if you run a 17 pitch alloy ,then a 16 pitch Stainless is the equivalent..
Also in most cases when you hit an alloy prop, you,ll generally do box/shaft damage anyways which still means an insurance claim..
Jackfrost...if you got a 16P vengeance prop or equivalent you WILL notice a difference on an alloy prop as they will lose their cup/bite and flex, whereas the stainless will not hence giving you more drive-torque

Prop
Going 17P to 19P will reduce your torque (assuming same diameter). Think of it like changing into a taller gear on your pushbike. If you want a little more bite you could go to an Ali 4 blade (around $250) but at the end of the day it would be a small gain at best. When you say you want better punch through the chop do you mean the boat bogs down when running on the back of a wave? Maybe you could explain more?

Yeah can feel like it holds
Yeah can feel like it holds up a bit on the back of a wave/large chop or wake. Nothing that bothers me alot but you know... boys and their toys. The DF90 rev range is 5500-6300. Was hoping the SS would provide more torque to push through the chop better and the higher pitch would give me a better crusing speed. Sounding as though any gains are going to be negligable.

Changing to a GOOD SS prop
Changing to a GOOD SS prop will make a massive difference! I got an extra 3 knots and 15-20 percent fuel economy going from an average SS prop to a really good SS prop, I can only imagine how bad an Ali prop will be.
If you do big km, do it.

Cheers all. After some
Cheers all. After some discussion with a couple of prop dealers and my Suzuki mechanic who is well known as the best Suzuki mech in Perth, I am looking to going down the path of going with ali but reducing my prop size from 14 to 13 3/4 or 13 7/8 but upping my pitch from 17 to 19. He says it will result in a lesser reduction in rpm giving me decent holeshot, increase my speed by a couple of miles but I'll give away some up trim which doesn't bother me much as the DF90 is miserly on fuel and I prefer to punch through chop.
