Anywhere, just wanting to know how to match the jig to what the squid will take depending on the weather.

 I'm not a squidder so don't

Fri, 2013-07-05 17:16

I'm not a squidder so don't know much about it personally, the information I'm about to give is from the issue of WAFM that's about to hit the shelves.

Squid see in monochrome so colour is only important from the point of view of maximising a jigs contrast against it's surroundings.

Gold- great long range visibility. The strong light reflection is good for bright sunny days.

Red- a strong silhouette colour. Ideal for low light conditions.

Pink- good for cloudy conditions, like red it will produce a good silhouette in low light conditions.

Orange- good for low light conditions, works best when squid are active.

Purple- suitable for low light or dark conditions.

Silver- a strong light reflection base, ideal for bright sunny conditions.

Clear- best suited to bright clear conditions. Adds a natural appeal to tempt fussy squid.

Glow (looks like lumo green) - a versatile colour, good for both day & night in low light conditions.

I hope that helps you out a bit.

Not sure if I'm allowed to

Sat, 2013-07-06 10:50

Not sure if I'm allowed to say it on here but I'm sure someone will let me know but -

On the Facebook page 'Fishing Busselton' if you scroll down a bit there is a chart for squid jig colour selection. The chart references clear to dirty water as well as clear to overcast daylight conditions. It's pretty much on the money

I hope that helps

i cant  make up my mind there are to many to choose from.

 5000FJ mate. Bigger spool

Sat, 2013-07-06 12:59

5000FJ mate. Bigger spool for more capacity & faster retrieve. I don't trust the ci4, I've heard stories of them failing at the reel stem.

I would have to say my go to

Wed, 2013-07-10 20:01

I would have to say my go to colours would have to be pink, brown, blue and if low light white jigs and depending on how quickly the boat was drifts I would then alter the weights on the jig that I was useing generall I use a 3 or 3.5.

I also believe you get what you pay for cheap jigs might catch a few squid but nothing like the more superior imported jigs they leave the bargin basement ones for dust.

Use a good flurocarbon leader also helps
