Squid help

I'm hoping to take the family out for a bit of squidding on Sunday morning and was wondering if anyone could direct me towards a kid friendly location where I might be able to bag a few? Only ever been squidding once, which was at south mole but didn't have any luck and don't really want to have my 2 and 4 yr old kids climbing around on the rocks as that's a recipe for disaster!

Squidding
Another option, the Ammo Jetty is a solid platform for kids and does produce squid. The key is to move around and mix it up with different jig weights & colours etc

Cheers. Will go check one of those options out. Looking at buying a couple of better jigs than the cheapies i've got so going to try and see you guys at oceanside on friday as the advice at my local BCF is non existent

Using some good jigs is great, but whiting on a spike is a definite winner.

turn off just before u get
turn off just before u get to cockburn PBC at woodie point boat ramp.. try all the way along that beach and around the point, its one of our stop in spots in the boat and will normally produce something, should be able to get something from shore/groyne along there... and plenty of sand for the kiddies to play in when they get bored

Been spending a bit of time
Been spending a bit of time on google maps around that area. Looking at starting around the ammo jetty and working my way down to point peron. Will give the whiting on a spike a go. Do you just squid baits sit or treat them like a jig?

Getting it above the weed from shore would be difficult but getting it in the mid water is key. Maybe a small float above a paternoster rig would keep it in the right spot. They can't help themselves, they attack whiting savagely. Make sure head is down with the spikes surrounding its head, they attack the head and bite the back of the neck.

hey mate from what i've had luck with is casting out around the weed and let the jig sink a bit then flick the rod up and down a couple of times and reel in the slack and a bit more then let it sink again and repeat, if you look up on youtube there are a fair few videos with different retrieval methods. And just a warning watch out at the ammo jetty and point peron because from what i've heard they are a bit of a hotspot for car breakins

Cheers for the heads up. Hopefully going mid morning, it should be a bit busier to deter people that way inclined. Another question, whats the best way to handle a freshly caught squid? I've searched a few old posts about iki jimi-ing them, but will they ink themselves out completely if left in the landing net for a bit or do I have to still be careful? This is all a new experience to this little bream fisherman!

well i haven't caught many
well i haven't caught many but all i do is get them up let them squirt out what they have left then spike them but if you mean picking them up when they are still live you just grab behind the head towards the tube end
