the heat needed to do the job will stuff the rod up, or the eye if it aint ceramic, if it is good chance it will crack anyway
depending if its on eye side or rod side u might be able to wrap with wet cloth etc. to protect when u weld
best would be to remove eye , then weld- , by then u can just as well put a new eye on
fairly easy job to wind an eye on - then chuck epoxy over the top will look like a new one
u could try to use product like jb weld to glue the eye back , will be a bit thick and ugly
some battery shops _who build batteries have a special spot welder that doesa "cool weld" uses a pulse to weld tabs on lithium ion batteries, there is 1 in ozzie park, they might be able to do it
I have a feeling the eye he's mentioned is the large one that receives the line first off the reel. Be good if he could post a pic to see what actually needs doing, like you don't like being caught out with these supposed easy quick jobs.

Had a new one put on a boat
Had a new one put on a boat rod awhile back,about 40 bucks and wouldn't tell apart from a new rod

as a semi decent welder - i wouldnt touch the job
