Spot plotting

What do you guys think? You take the boys out fishing to your best fishing spots and now days you can plot spots on your smart fone, so one of them plots your spots behind your back, then every weekend they go and hammer the one spot where you enjoy spending ur breaks from work??? Wat are people's thoughts?

Ye
Ye mate the boys love using navionics on my boat Iv caught them plotting, I don't really care bout the spot I'll always catch fish on it but it's more the principle, just want to be able to come home from weeks away and not fish thrashed ground.

A bucket might not be enough.
A bucket might not be enough. They can still record a GPS track even when they're just sitting in someones pocket.
Might need to take some tin foil and wrap all the phones up in that.

yeah have to say I generally
yeah have to say I generally fish with the same decky (best mate) and a lot of the spots we find I would consider his as well. I know he wouldn't smash them time and time again behind my back but certainly wouldn't care if he went out and fished on some of the spots without me.
however If I say...advertised for a decky on this site and caught him (somehow) pinging my spots behind my back I wouldn't be too happy about it.
depends how its done

The only decent thing to do
The only decent thing to do is not GPS track a journey unless you've checked it out with the skipper. It's not hard to ask.
If you're regular crew and finding spots together, then it seems more fair to get the coordinates and/or track the journey, and I would think most wouldn't object. However, hopping on and tracing spots you didn't participate in finding without even asking doesn't seem cool.

Phones are the least of your worries fellas.
Latest device now is the new gps watch made by ripcurl. Shows exact coord's , tide changes etc etc.
i will certainly be lookn for these prior to fishing my honey holes with so called suspect deckies

Yeah, bucket!
For all phones/watches/etc brought onboard. Really does the job if bucket is filled with water! Honestly, if, as a deckie, you get a trip out with say, someone on this forum, why wouldn't you just leave your phone in the car?

went fishing
with a bloke from fishwrecked a few years back and everyone spooked the crap out of him about mobile phones plotting his spots. I rock up to the ramp and he says his fishfinder and gps aren't working and so we try a few crap spots. The only thing I use my phone for is to let the mrs know the boat details and which boat ramp we've left from and to let her know when we hit dry land again. Was pretty disappointed to say the least. I will always take my phone with me, you never know when you might need to call someone in an emergency and I'd rather not rely on the unknown skipper's radio.
Fishin for a feed and fun.

So...
...you may as well not rely on his life jackets/flares/EPIRB/etc? Why go out on his boat in the first place?

Have
my own lifejacket and the phone is switched off whilst we're on the ocean so not sure what the issue is.

Make sure you're the only one
Make sure you're the only one out of your mates with a boat - that does the trick and pays the fuel bill nicely!

I went on a charter boat
I went on a charter boat recently (used to be a site sponsor) and was quite surprised that there wasn't anything said about smart phones. and we all had them out taking photos. and no I didn't track anything. I did however try to take some visual transits to see if I could find the spots again.... no luck so far. :)

Easy, stop temptation by allowing no gadetry on board at all. They're not mates if they are pinging behind your back, they are arseholes.
