 the gear you have would stop massive rays like 50-100kg easy as and 3 meter sharks your in for a good chance just go hard striaght away you might loose a few before you will get one. I doubt you will hook a 200lb tuna anywhere in wa waters but maybe a 50-100lb which again your gear could stop byt yeah go hard straight away hahahahah

 A 200lb Tuna will run exactly 273.62m on a 15kg drag :)

...a 200 lb tuna once. It was on 15.1 kg drag and took 561 meters of line. So your drag is one-tenth of a kg too little and your line + leader is one meter too short. Maybe use a really long lure with the hook right at the end so you get that extra meter?

Or: Crank the drag up to 50 kg or so.

Or: Use a rod that's a meter longer.

Or: Don't cast to tuna that are bigger than 199 lb.

Or: Fish for your giant tuna in a place where they CAN'T go 561 meters. Like Golden Ponds in Mundijong.

On a serious note.... if you have the right technique, and more importantly patience..... you can catch just about anything on just about any equiptment.

Just take what you have, and get out there and give it a go...

If you are losing fish, change your technique to make the equipment you have, work for you..

After a while, once your technique is honed, you will then realise what equipment you need to start changing....  like many of us... this will become an expensive hobby!!  ;-)

Personally, instead of the spinfisher, for what you are describing, I would have bought a fin-nor offshore 7500, 8500 or 9500 reel. Good reel for the money. I have 4 of these reels and never seem to amaze me.. Heavy though... (you're only 12)

More suited to bottom bouncing off a boat, but if you have good technique, you can cast them a reasonable distance and have amazing drag!

 Make sure you have a look at the tuff tackle reel. Made for that stuff.

Maybe it's just me but when I used a 950 SSM I found the really big things too much for the standard drag.

The solution is to palm the spool carefully to supplement the drag. Wear gloves or risk burning your fingers and palms as I found out from a monster stingray.

Short answer - Yes if you play it right and spool enough line.

Yep totally agree with you TJR. Much better kids these days having so much enthusiasm for fishing. As for everyone on here giving them sh!t, have a look at yourselves in the mirror, they are kids who are only trying to learn. If you're worried about Drag and don't have a lot of money to throw around try the Fin Nor Offshore 9500

iirc they're 27.5kg drag

Lot of them around these days on special.
They're not a fancy reel and they're heavy but they're a work horse that wont quit if you treat it well.

The only fish yet to pull any line off while the drag is locked was a 2.5m+ tiger, and saying that it was a very small amount of line.

 On an important note. If you use a rod of the rating you say with 15 kg of drag you will snap it. That rating on the rod is for the line class not necessarily the drag setting. Drag settings are generally set around a third of the breaking strain of the line so in our case to be sure you won't snap the line using 15 kilos of drag you will need around 45 kilo line or close enough to 100 pound braid, not the 50lb you have. Then of course the rod will not handle it unless you point it towards the fish every time it runs.

As well as all that I doubt a young fella like yourself will not be able to hold on with that much drag and a running fish. Maybe you should set it on some scales and see just how much that really is. With that rod I would be careful to even lift a 10 litre bucket up (10 kilos of drag approx) without snapping the rod you would struggle to even lift it anyway especially with the length at 7 foot. And that's 10 kilos not 15.

It sounds like a decent outfit but just be careful with the drag settings you are trying to use.

 I have a 2-4kg bream stick that I doubt would dry lift a 2 kg weight  but I can seem to pull 5-6kg salmon with it if not bigger why hasnt my rod snapped??

 have to  agree with the ugly stick a freind of mine has matched a 7 foot 5-8kg ugly stik to a 850 spinfisher with 50pd braid and has been pulling monster rays in with no worries
