Spin reel and rod for Barra

In a couple of months I am taking the wife and the kids on the big lap arround oz, and I have decided to purchase a Cartopper tinny to make the most of the fishing opportunities. I have a couple of bigger outfits that I am planning on taking, saltiga 4500 on a saltiga Pe 4 jigging rod and Daiwa  Catalina 5000H on a saltiga s-extreme 76 game.

I need some suggestions for a spin rod and reel in the Pe 1.5 /2 class that would suitable for flicking lures up north for Barra and other spiecies that I am likely to encounter. As you can probably tell I am a daiwa fan but open to ther suggestions. I am trying to avoid baitcaster reels/rods as I am hopeless at using them.

As for budget I would like to get the rod reel combo for 500 to 700$.

looking forward to your responses.

One of my favourite lure flicking setups is a 3500 Daiwa tierra on a eupro salty fighter rod. Caught plenty of big Barra on it.

Shimano Thunnus 4000

Wed, 2016-07-06 17:55

Ive caught some pretty solid fish on my 'wifes' Thunnus 4000. And its got the bonus feature of the baitrunner. Nice light reel. Worth a look. And Ive got it paired with a Azusa Spin 4-8kg or Shimano Raider 4-8kg spin.

Any thoughts on Daiwa Certate 3000? Or would I need the 3500?

Nitro viper paired with a half decent daiwa 3000/shimano 4000 and you will have everything covered.

Dropped by my local Compleat Angler store today to have a look at a few reels and rods in person and picked up the discontinued Daiwa Certate 3000 at a nice discount as it was the last one they had in stock.

Now still looking for rods to match that reel and some nice Pe 1.5 braid....

I use a dropshot G Loomis with recoils with my 3000 certate and absolutely love it..but it's a one piece and a pain to take anywhere so I recently purchased a nitro viper 2 piece and its the rod I choose most of the time these days, thoroughly recommended.
