Sounder Help Please

Hi everyone,
After many years of putting up with an inferior sounder I have bought myself a new one!
I have mounted the new transducer in the same spot as the previous one, Now the problem I have is that I cant pick up the bottom depth or clear picture anything above 7 knots. Under that speed its perfect.
When I look down at the transducer under the swim platform- there is nothing but bubbles and turbulant water.
Is it a matter of moving the transducer to the starboard side further or ideas please?
Just checking before I drill new holes.
Any advice/help would be very much appreciated.

Should be good were you are...just small adjustments now would be first bet.
Ive had issues with mine and have had to settle with it....motor tilt trim can vary mine a bit.

To start
First thing you should do is run the cable over the top of the transducer not under the face !
The next time i see that jig will be in the mouth of something big !!

Yep, move that cable. If there are only two screws at the top of the bracket you may well encounter flex as well. Without seeing a side on pic I cant tell ideal height. Thoroughly check your transducer placement, height and unit settings, most people expect plug and play and accept that the sounder just doesn't do what the brochure says.

Still yet to perfect mine but
Still yet to perfect mine but I agree with the above:
-Move the transducer cable
-small adjustments up/down. My totalscan should have the bottom of the transducer inline with the bottom of the hull (from memory).
-Ensure that the tranny cable isn't getting interference from being run next to electrical cables
-Biggest difference is trim/tilt. Trimming the motor up gets me to about 16knots.

Sounder help please,
Nice to have the transducer pointing forward a bit, but yours maybe to much, your mount looks to be a bit low on the right hand side, but maybe just the photo angle, cable needs to go directly up, & maybe brace it to the back of the boat so there is know movement, the rest should be fine adjustment @ the unit, good luck, let us know how you get on with it, cheers Don.

HAve a look at the lowrance video on youtube, it covers this exact problem, too low shoed an air bubble form at speed.

That transducer doesn't look
That transducer doesn't look deep enough to me. The main bracket welded on the boat is not flat with the Hull so it causes a step for air bubbles to form. I'd be lowering the transducer down so it's under the main Hull line by 5mm at least with a slight rear downward tilt

Like someone has already said
Like someone has already said if that bracket flexes whilst under power you won't get a reading my sounder started playing up and when I checked the screws gad loosened tightened them up and all was good again but I have 4 screws.

Cutting board about 12mm
Get a piece of cutting board about 12mm and mount over the whole face of your aluminiu transducer extension mount. Then you can drill as many holes as you like to mount the transducer as they only go through the cutting board and don't leave the aluminium section looking like swiss cheese.

at a guess from that last pic it looks too high, run a straight edge along the bottom of the hull and make sure the face of the tranny is below that line
My spots are so secret even the fish don't know about them !

Way too high. Grab something straight, slap it on the hull so you can extend the hull line and then ensure your transducer sits 1/2 an inch under that.

The transducer is way to high. , run a straight edge along the underside of the hull and thus should be parrallel with the joint line on the transducer. You should also try to close any gap between the leading edge and the rear edge of transom .
the transducer also doesn't look straight from the rear of the hull.ie right angle Might just be odd photo.

As mentioned too high and too much of an angle. While traveling the bough will be sitting higher therefore the tranny will have even more of an angle. Get the height right with method mentioned then you can play around with the angle to get the best read but definitely move that cable .

Plus cable should be up through the bracket.
Make and model of sounder and is there not instructions with it ?
Put this over all transducer & sounder wiring to minimize interference .
