Sounder comparisons and Upgrade
Submitted by Dopolo on Mon, 2016-08-22 09:31
Hi All
Been running a FCV600L for 5 years and have been considering upgrading, So question is how much more do you gain in performance upgrading to FCV627 or FCV628 or even considering the GP1670F. Are these a significant upgrade in performance from the 600L. and are the new fcv a lot better in sounding performance than the GP1670F.
Also how effective is the bottom discrimination for determining reef whilst travelling perth metro in particular whilst travelling to and from swb?

Bottom discrimination a
Bottom discrimination a gimmick. The Furuno sounder is a great unit, no need for these useless toys.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

Same Situation
I am in exactly the same situation as you. Currently, have the FCV600L and believed it was not too much different to the FCV620.
However, the FCV600L only has a 350W output whereas the 620 and up is 600W.
I am looking to upgarde to the FCV628 (dont believe 627 is too much different) in the next few months. The main reason for the upgrade is for two reasons. 1.It has the bootom differentiation function.
2. and has Rezboost which combined with the Accu fish function will identify weather the school is a bait ball or larger target species.
JohnF says the "Bottom discrimiation is a gimmick", so will also be interested in the responces.

Bottom discrimination
this function only works with certain transducers, not sure if it works with a standard p66, if this is the function that interests you it's worth checking that the Tranny you are getting will work.
My spots are so secret even the fish don't know about them !
