U can run a paternoster rig

U can run a paternoster rig with the placcy as a dropper, we do them in the surf if the fish are running, not sure if it works in deeper water though, and if you can get a decent action on them

Big hooks...big fish lol

I use massive plastics and hooks to 40m+, not sure how the paternoster would go...I reckon it'll work

Slow your drift

Tue, 2010-12-21 20:30

Slow your drift with a drift anchor and cast well ahead of your drift pattern so when you reach to your cast spot the plastic should be getting down close to the bottom, adding split shots above the jighead also helps add weight and keep hook size small. can also buy free swinging drop leads and change the hook to what size you require. I normally fish plastics in 30m and under and most times at anchor with a berley trail so it's easier to get the placcy down

SP/Jig heads

Theres a few different brands and models in jigheads to suit. Look at the TT & Nitro jihheads, we use 1 1/2oz to 2 oz in 40m (with a sea anchor) and bigger SP profiles the better ie McArthy 7inch Bullheads. The tip from Tim ie to cast them behind your boat is a good one and that allows you to jig more vertically but fish come well off the bottom also to hit plastics so keep the yo-yo action.

Cast Ahead

of the drift and work the plastic, Hookt landed two very nice snapper using this method in 25knt ESE and 2m Swell.

Lucky we had Whitey as skipper who as Paul G says tried to hold the spot where he could.

yep the wind was pushy but that was a 2 ounce TT jighead. Possiby could have used a 3 or 4 ounce jig head but nice and slowly the 2 ounce got down there.

I use 1 to 1.5oz heads with 5

Tue, 2010-12-21 21:31

I use 1 to 1.5oz heads with 5 to 7" plastics in 40m. As everyone has mentioned, cast ahead of your drift. Plenty of fish will take the plastic on the drop. Snapper feed mid water too... I've hooked plenty high in the water column.

Also run lighter lines to assist in a quicker drop & better action.

40lb leader is ample. I use

40lb leader is ample. I use 10-15lb mainline with 20lb leader for plastics. Heavier mainlines just affect the sink rate too much with plastics.

Its a normal hook with a loop knot attached to the placcy, and inside the loop knot is watever size ball sinker you want.
