Snapper Guardians

Hi forum.
I am looking for any Cockburn Sound regulars who might be keen to be part of an ABC story about the Snapper Guardians project and the December fish kill.
Would involve a camera interview and getting out on a boat in the next week or so to hopefully film some pinkies being pulled up.
If you're keen please PM me or email me at

I'm a Snapper Guardian and have a story about the Fish Kill- but I fish from a Jet Ski around Cockburn Sound, and you will most likely get wet filming! lol

Fair enough. I fish from a yak and the boss seems to dislike the idea of tying expensive television camera to it.
But if you know anyone who can help out....

Ryan thipthorp is your man to actually catch snapper in the sound.I have a 375 tinny which I can go to Carnac and in the sound on the right day and I have a lot of time at the moment and I have a some knowledge about the fish kill. However there are far better and equiped anglers that could help you.Cheers

I have the time and the boat but can't catch a legal sized snapper. Can I buy some pinkies from a fishmonger and put a hook in its mouth and pull it up and then you start filming?

Hah!Oddly enough undersize
Hah!
Oddly enough undersize fish would be ok too. Then we'd have some shots of them going back in.
While I have no problems donging a decent fish on the head and throwing it on ice, I'm not sure the typical ABC viewer would be so keen.

which angle is abc taking on this
Big companies cover up mess of cockburn sound and the government doesnt want agencies tell us its a natural occurrence and fishermen fund the restocking of pink snapper. Ive got a smaller dinghy which im setting up for night fishing. Happy to take you out but i fish out of fremantle. But im sure the fish move around. Caught 12 undersized pinks 2 nights ago plus a yellowtail kingfish a few salmon. Im available the next two weeks anytime. Are you going to get any landbased footage?

Or will it remain neutral?

Hi maggot and
Hi maggot and Meeuwissen.
I'll try to answer your questions in order.
Cheers for the offer Meeuwissen but I think for ease of filming and comfort for a cammo a dinghy probably wouldn't work so well. But I'll keep it in mind.
Looks like forum member Rockpom will be able to help me out with a boat, which is great.
Not so much looking for heaps of landbased fishing action, but I do expect to get a camera along the shoreline at some point in the next few days to get general shots.
And if there's anyone fishing from the beaches I'll be trying to film/speak to them.
maggot - it's not so much a doco as a short tv package (maybe 5 minutes) about how rec anglers embraced the Snapper Guardians plan, and raised stacks of money in a very short span of time to fund it.
Although I know there's plenty of scepticism about what's going on in the Sound, it won't all fit into this story.
Don't know about neutral so much. Just trying to present a good story about the power of the rec community.

I'm not actually sure
I'm not actually sure Mattymac, except to say it will be a Saturday morning sometime in the next little while.
I guess I'll find out ahead of time and when I do I can try to alert you.
But with a federal election campaign likely to take up lots of airtime it's a bit hard to say when.

Im with Duncan
PM Ryan or contact him at site sponsor Oceanside tackle.
He is a snapper gun, known in the media due to his role as presenter on Fishing WA and unless there is a conflict of interest I think he is the man for this. He already tags heaps of his fish.

Hey all. For those
Hey all.
For those interested in this thing, it's running on ABC News 24 this Saturday at 9.30am.
Program is called Australia Wide.
You can flame me afterwards if you hate it I guess.
If - as does happens - they cut out of it for some election bullshit, you'll have to watch it later on the Australia Wide website.
