I posted up something similar earlier in the week about Simrad S2009 which has the same sounder module as nss evo2 with double the power. Doesn't seem to be too many Simrad users on here. Lots of good info over on thehulltruth web site though for just about any transducer you want to know about.
If you're bottom fishing the 587 with 1Kw transducer is going to be hard to beat. CHIRP is not the best at showing bottom contours from what I have read.
I am not able to read the bottom in anything over 160mts and drops out with any speed over 10knots and just doesnt seem to be shooting strait if that makes any sence have tried adjusting transducer angles n depth and still the same i have a nss12 for my gps/chart plotter and love it
What transducer do you have for the 1kw? I'm guessing your boat is a Trophy 2352. Does the bottom drop out if you are just drifting or only when driving? The transducer is going to want clean water across the face of it so make sure it isn't mounted inline with any strakes or raw water pickups on your hull.
sounds pretty strange to me
I run nss8 with the standard 600w tranny. my boat doesn't go fast enough for it to drop out. (30ish kts) Really only fish out to 120ish meters but picks up fish and flare ups on bottom easily at that depth.
if you are running the 1kw then think there are setup problems rather than reaching the terminal capabilities of the unit.
I kinda figured that but without knowing whag is actually wrong i dont know where to start to try fixing it so was just hoping a new setup and new install mute just solve the issue
Can you show a picture of your transducer mount from the back and from the side? Get down level with the bottom of the hull and take the pics so we can see.
Is your sounder running in auto mode or have you tweaked the settings?
If ur on Facebook check out the deep dropping Western Australia page a couple off the boys on there are running simrad and reading up to 1000m and finding ground at speed in 4-500m
I'd say there something else goin on with your set up mate my old 585 tm260 holds bottom 150m at 18knts on 200htz and on 50htz had it reading in 600m but had to be almost stopped mate
I see you updated the pic - is the tranducer angled to be perpendicular to the ground when it's on the trailer? It looks like it is angled up to the right.
Otherwise, is it really close to the running strake/step in the hull where the triler bunk is? You may need to move it to the right a bit to get the clean water off the flat part between the steps/strakes.
Hey bud, im running a NSS12 evo 2 and Tm275LH-w transducer and haven't had many issues hey.
Im running mine thru a "red box" that might help utilize the full capacity of the 1kw chirp transducer thou. I can hold bottom at 60 meters upwards of 30 knots and rarely have it drop out.
Still yet to make it right out that back (deeper than 300) but when I do, ill be posting pics for sure :)
I'm also running the nss12 Evo 2 but with a 1kw B164 in hull.
Works a treat, can't recommend it enough. I've spotted fish to 300m (managed to catch a couple too!)
The in hull fixed all my drop out problems, I've got clear bottom at over 30knots on calm water (starts dropping out when the boat is leaving the water..)
I run a 587 1kw and that looks a tad high to me and not straight so shooting a little to the side but def no expert still sussing mine out but thinkin of goin thru hull for 50 khtz

That transducer looks a bit
That transducer looks a bit too low to me. I was told to aim for 5mm below the hull with a further 5mm fall to the rear of the transducer
