When they were swarming around the crayboat ( remember, this is the time when they were raising concerns about them being endangered). Picture this. You have the rudder turned on full lock, engine in neutral. Sharks around prop. You put it into gear and hit the throttle to turn to the next pot, swinging the stern hard--straight into the face of the shark aproaching from the wrong side.Sharks don't have reverse. It made a hell of a racket, and could actually bend your prop slightly, happened to me. Although I never came home with a souvenir like that
Cruising down the west side of Barrow and caught a glimpse on a huge shark coming in at right angles to the boat, thump then bang, V12 Cat engine stalls. Restart engine and put in gear, stalls again, restart and this time put in reverse, thumper, thumper thumper with each turn of the prop and then chunks of what was left start appearing.
One full lobe of its liver came up to the surface complete, I estimated it to be around 43.5 metres long giving the shark to be close to 5.5 to 6.0 metres.
Was a sorry sight to see thousands of dollars worth of meat, fins and jaws sinking out of sight. Goes to pay that if you run into a prop that's nearly 2 metres in diameter you are going to come off second best.
Another incident in my boat, collected a sea snake coming back from the islands, didn't discover it till washing the boat down at home, no vibration at all.
Don't know how to add pic to this thread but will post it later
Was up north of montes on a near glass off day. Cruising at 30 knots and one of those massive Yellow Sea snakes popped up direct in front of me. Outboard leg hit it dead centre and pulled me off the plane. Looked over expecting to see it all wrapped up but it was floating straight down in firm V shape.
Crayboat having trouble with auxiliary overheating. Removed internal strainer unit on intake to find large sea snake jammed in there, thankfully dead left it sitting on top of the fuel hose cabinet at eye level, the double takes of people walking past were funny as. Actually had a large one surface next to me north of Kalbarri yesterday--water temp was 21.7, must have been shivering.

Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Decky
Decky scooped one up in a hand net, reckoned that they couldn't move on the deck, bullshit, this thing stood right up like a cobra ready to strike.
Quickly despatched over the side and decky warned that next stuff up and he would be looking for a new job.
