Shimano Torsa

Hi guys,
just seeing if anyone has used the Torsa? Looking at a 30 to spool with 50lb. Shimano talk it up and seems to be pretty beefy but would always like a second opinion before shelling out some coin.

I have a Torsa 30 and love it. I have 10kg mono on it as a dedicated light/ Maccy trolling reel and its aweomse. Feels tough as, very smooth. I was planning on putting PE 5 or so on it and using it as a deep water bottom bashing reel, as it doesn't get the use that it should. The only downside is that its maybe a little heavy for that sort of fis. Great reel, would highly recomend it.

had the pleasure to land a nice YFT on size 40, 15kg mono... awesome reel by all means, but as mentioned, wouldn't bottom bash with it as its heavy.

The 30
The torsa 30 is my "go to" reel for bottom bashing, and out of 12 combos that I have, it by far gets the most use. After I got mine, a few mates got the torsa 20's, as they are a bit lighter, but I still have no worries at all holding the 30 all day.
I matched it to a pe 5-6 alutecnos blue jigging rod, and there is seriously nothing that this combo can't boat.
Also, their high gear ratio is hard to beat when your tryin to outrun the sharks with a hooked red up north.
WELL worth the coin theyre asking, and if looked after, will be a reel for life.

The Torsa is the most
The Torsa is the most powerful overhead reel I've ever had the pleasure of using. I have a 16 and it's a tank. As said above a little heavy and to be honest unless line capacity is an issue the 16 is already big enough to handle any bottom fish. Mine has 80lb braid on it with plenty of capacity. Due to the big strong high ratio gears it's also a tad Lopsided so unless you are after a stump puller I would go with a Talica which is also cheaper. Since you mentioned 50lb the Talica would suit you better. Size will depend on the drag you want to use and line capacity. Even then the smallest model, the Tac8 has heaps of line capacity.

I have the 16N loaded with 300 meters of 50lb tufline. big enough and small enough at the same time.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Thanks guys, great feedback.
Was looking at it for bottom bashing. Might go the 20 though now, bit lighter and by the sounds of it will be. Tough enuf for any job.

Torsa weight
Torsa 16 - 815g
Torsa 20 - 845g
Torsa 30 - 870g
Not a lot in it weight wise. I have a 30 and imo if you are concerned about finding it tiring to hold one of these all day you are bordering on being limp wristed.
Yes they are heavier than other reels, but not heavy as such.
Having said that line capacity should be the criteria with regard to model selection.

Alan, that is twice the weight of a jigger. They might be ok for bb or trolling, but I'd take a talica over one any day if you were considering jigging.

Must admit , if mine went overboard next trip , I'd look at something lighter.
