Shimano TLD 25 gears needed
Submitted by Spicey on Wed, 2021-06-16 13:21
Hi there fellas. I'm looking to replace the main gear in my TLD25 but am having trouble finding them.
Have tried Shimano Australia, Laith and various tackle shops but no one has them and Shimano are waiting on a shipment at the end of the month.
I know it's a long shot but if anyone has a main gear and pinion that they could part with I would happy to compensate them with cash or beer. I'm located NOR but can pickup from SOR if needed.
Cheers

Gumtree
There's one in Clarkson for $119 and one in NSW for $80. Two reels for the price of a new one.
My wife understands why I clean my rods n reels in the shower....

How old is the reel? I had
How old is the reel? I had one for like 25+ years, while I fished in Karratha 10years as a pro fisherman trolled home most days with it and hooked so many macks. All I ever did to it was replace the handle!
It would still probably be going now, but the overhead rod holder on my mates boat gave way and flipped several rods over the side.

I found them on Ebay (US)
I found them on Ebay (US) some time back for TLD20 and were fairly cheap.
Just be aware that there are a couple of different ratios used, at least in the TLD20.
I found that my original Japanese made model had different gearing to the later Malaysian (I think) made model.
Also if you are going to the trouble of replacing gears, do them as a set, not individual gears.

Old
It's a few years old but in good nic. Just got a clunk when winding under load from being used for a bottom basher with heavy lead in the early days. Just use it for trolling these days.
I'll check out the OS site but was hoping to get hold of them a bit sooner and yes was going to replace both just can't find the main gear here in Aus.
May have to also check out the second hand one too.

Upgrade
Spicey, I used Alan Tani's drag upgrade and it is terrific, also upgraded the handle at the same time, best change ever!
If anyone has parts for a 25, it will be him, email address below, really nice bloke.

Cheers Mark
Had forgotten about Alan. I'll touch base with him.
I think I still have the spanner around too, thanks for the offer though.
