Shark Shield Opinions
Submitted by trueblue_10 on Fri, 2016-08-05 06:46
I am looking at buying a Shark Shield (Freedom 7 Model)for my son's Birthday. He is a keen scuba diver.
Its been a few years since this topic was really raised on this forum and we have had a few fatal shark attacks since and some media regarding the Shark shield.
Looking for people who have knowledge and use of the Shark Shield who can opinions. Also would appreciate any real work encounters with sharks with a Freedom 7 turned on.

If your son is a keen scuba diver (like myself) you
probably want to be getting him the shark shield SCUBA 7 model. One small plate electrode attaches to the scuba tank strap and the other braided wire electrode attaches to the ankle and is only a bit longer than your fin, you don't even know your wearing it. The freedom 7 model has a very long electrode, other scuba divers ive dived with complain that it tends to get in the way especially in tight spots with some surge the electrode can wrap around you and your gear also drags and gets caught in the reef when swimming close to the bottom

s/ shield
my 2 cents. I've had both scuffs scuba7 and freedom 7.
its true that the scuba 7 is a lot less cumbersome when in the water, but a lot more hassle to get it on/off.
freedom 7 - just strap around your ankle and you're done.
don't think I'll go back to the scuba7 now.
cheers

Freedom 7
Scuba dived with one for years never zapped me. I cable tie it with 3 cable ties down the outside of my fin and it trails behind me no worries.

Seen a Tiger while cray
Seen a Tiger while cray diveing, about 2.5m, came within about 15m stopped looked at me turned 90 degrees & swam away.
Seen a bronzy similar size while cray/spear fishing i had a foxfish & queen snapper in my catch bag, similar distance same reaction.
Not sure if sheid even had a effect as the range on em is only sposed to be about 6m.

I use mine on the yak and
I use mine on the yak and and if I forget to turn it off while reeling in a shark, I dont get the shark in. They really really dont like them. Same story every time, get the shark to within 2-3 mt of the shield and it goes nuts to get away.

Rigged one up under the boat
Rigged one up under the boat and then had 3, 7 foot whalers fighting over a pinkie while touching the antenna.
Tom Carroll went on 60 minutes saying he trusts the new shark shield technology 100% yet no one was willing to step outside the shark cage while wearing one
