Nasty spines
What's the result of getting spiked by one?
Looks like a nice fish next to it

Toxin
The produce a mild toxin that gives you curry if you get stung, same as gurnards, cobbler etc, plenty of hot hot water asap after getting stung.

creatures that sting
just a bit of info on treating stings,we have all heard the old story if you get stung piss on the site of the sting as the warm temperature of the urine will get rid of the toxin..wrong i got stung by a cobbler a few years back pissed on my hand it didn't releive the pain one bit all i got out of the venture was a hand smelling strongly of urine.bad experiance

Mandarin Shark
This is a very interesting catch! Loving FishWrecked for this stuff...
This is a species of dogfish called a Mandarin Shark Cirrhigaleus australis. I'm excited to see the photo. This species was only described in 2007 (previous it was thought to be a species from the northern hemisphere). It was completely unknown from WA until a couple of years ago (before that it was known only from the south-east and NZ). Usually in water deeper than 350m. It looks very similar to the other dogfishes (ie greeneyes and spurdogs), but the very long nasal flaps are a dead giveaway.
Can you give me any more details for our records? - where, when, depth etc. PM or email if you don't want to give too much away publicly.....

I think it was Paul G
who put up a pic some time ago now of shark which was a fair bit larger than the usual green eye. Maybe this is other one for you Glenn. Maybe Paul could repost or someone may be able to locate the original post.

Something about the eyes on
Something about the eyes on it - looks really devious or something!
Was it a pretty toothy critter? Just wondering as looks like you are using mono and doesn't seem to have bitten you off.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

400lb mono
Running circles you rarely ever hook fish any where else but the corner jaw.
