Hi guys
Im thinking of doing some shark fishing in the cockburn sound by boat, but with the sound snapper ban on i dont want people thinking im out chasing pinks do you guys think i should just leave it until after the ban or just go for it? I have seen a few bronzeys cruising around lately wouldn't mind putting a hook into 1.
Or am i just asking for a arguement back at the ramp

I wouldnt bother with it
I wouldnt bother with it mate, i can see too many problems already. If people see you anchored up and burleying with heavy gear out they are gonna presume ur after snapper, and if fisheries come past thenyou have gotta try explain yourself, especialy if a pinkie happens to get on the end of your line, large snapper will attack pretty large baits. Head out to the 5 mate and try your luck there, but keep in mind the demersal ban is approching so you will have to try nyour best to make sure your only going to catch sharks.

Do what ya want as long as ya dont keep a pinky in the sound, just dont scratch your ass the wrong way or a whole heap of people you dont know will have an opinion that you probably dont give a flyin f*&% about anyways.
Good luck with ya sharks.

Would be pretty hard for people to argue you are targetting pinkies with a big ass steel trace and 12/0. Go for it!

mate, dont let people ruin
mate, dont let people ruin your day, if you wanna fish for shark and a pink grabs it, THATS FISHING, bring him up take the hook out and put him back. At the end of the day, i could be fishing in cockburn off the rocks for whiting and get a snapper, do i then have to go um um um um i wasnt trying....its stupid, if you want shark go for it....
I love fishing. It`s escaping reality for a few hours for me!

Rig Style
If you're really worried about it just set up an 8 foot leader and set a balloon on it. Pretty hard for anyone with half a clue about fishing to accuse you of fishing for Pinks when a balloon is on the business end.

as said above, go for it. If
as said above, go for it. If you do hook a pinkie by accident, try and make sure no scales are aboard as that is one thing Fisheries look for.
Hopefully the regulars here have learnt a lesson about jumping to conclusions and shredding unknown people after recent events here.
Jamos Damakos above has the right idea.
While its good "to be seen" doing the right thing, I reckon we are going down the path of "rules by stealth".
Where the law is made so complex that we are afraid that even if we are doing the right thing-we're not 100% certain without a lawyer to examine it in detail.

How can they? If you release
How can they? If you release it within a reasonable time (immediately?) you have done NOTHING wrong.

Ummm, pretty sure the
Ummm, pretty sure the fisheries guys would have no right what so ever to do anything to someone whom doesnt keep or damage/injure fish when they are fishing in an area they have every right to fish. What is the difference between catching and releasing a fish that is protected by the limited season and catching and releasing a undersized fish?
I have every intention of going out and catching sambo's during the ban. if the byproduct of this is that I end up catching and releaseing a dhu or two then so be it.

Totally agree
with you on that point Ray and I bet you'd be one of those 'unlucky' fisho's that would catch a ripper Dhuie during the ban

Your not doing anything wrong, so why not.
Like most have said, just go for it.
There are lots of fish that are protected that people catch all the time and put back, there is no difference now. If you get one take a photo and put it back. As long as you dont actally bring it home you are doing nothing wrong no mater who is watching. If any one else is out there to see you they are just as likely to get one so there is no reason for them to be critical. Anyway a big steel trace is enougth to prove your intentions.
